Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS)

•Government policy targets for renewable energy exist in at least 66 countries worldwide (including all 27 European Union countries).

•There is a broad spectrum of national ambition, as targets for renewables range from 2 percent to 78 percent:

•India and Chile have targets of 5 percent by 2010 and 2014, respectively

•Sweden is raising the bar with a target of 50 percent of their energy supply coming from renewable sources and the goal of becoming the first country in the world to be free from oil by 2020.
