West Africa’s First Tier IV Prefabricated Modular Data Center by Cloud Exchange
Uptime Institute has announced the award of a Tier IV Design Certification to Cloud Exchange
Datacenter Limited (CEDL) for it’s data center in Nigeria.
Cloud Exchange West Africa Limited formerly known as Dimension Data Nigeria Limited
(“DDNG”) is the leading West African systems integrator and virtual computing end to end IT
company with the ability to provide world class IT solutions adapted to the local terrain.
CEDL’s Datacenter is the first Tier IV co-location data center in West and Central Africa.
Over the past two decades, Nigeria has maintained steady economic growth and has even surpassed
South Africa in GDP, making it the largest economy in Africa. Nigeria is a resource-rich country with
extensive oil reserves ranking No.10 in the world and it’s natural gas reserve ranking No.1 in Africa.
It is the most populous country in Africa and its demographics has the potential to boost economic
growth.
The ICT industry is one of the economic growth engines in Nigeria with continued growth in the E-
commerce, e-banking and e-government sectors. Nigeria has over 90 million internet users, ranking it
as Africa’s No.1 and World’s No.10.
Cloud Exchange Datacenter Limited (CEDL) plans to invest in building more data centers to meet
Nigeria and Middle Africa’s demand for colocation and cloud services.
In the first phase, CEDL plans to deploy two Tier IV Design and Facility Certification Co-location
data centers in Nigeria and Ghana to attract high-end tenants. In addition, the data centers shall be
scalable to satisfy future capacity expansion. Phase One of CEDL’s Nigeria data center will be
operational in June 2018.
In dealing with the challenges of high reliability and tight schedules, CEDL chose to build a new
generation prefabricated modular data center. Huawei, the leading company in this area, was the
chosen supplier for CEDL’s new data center. Huawei, with extensive experience in the ICT industry
and developing data center technologies, develops FusionModule1000B prefabricated data center
solution tailored to customer demand.
Huawei’s solution uses a 3.6-m high cube and complies with a Tier IV Designed Facility. It includes
HUAWEI’s high-efficiency modular UPS, PAC and DCIM+ management system. All these advanced
facilities are prefabricated in the factory and pretested before delivery. In addition, Huawei provides
exclusive factory acceptance tests (FAT) to guarantee reliability and quality. Huawei’s solution takes
the modular architecture and supports expansion in a stacking manner. This modular and scalable
design allows it to deploy more racks in same space and reduce the customer’s initial investment.
Besides, the design PUE is lower than 1.5, which will bring tangible benefits to CEDL in the long run.
Huawei’s solution also provides a customized facade with high-level finishing.
By 2017, Huawei prefabricated modular data center had shipped more than 500 units around the
world and serves reputable customers like Dubai Airport( Uptime Tier III Design and Facility
Certification), Telenor Myanmar, Etisalat, and University of Groningen Yantai Campus.
Huawei’s prefabricated data center has consistently ranked No.1 since 2014 and is the industry leader.
As a sector leader, CEDL’s new Tier IV certified data center, supported by Huawei will
continue to boost the ICT industry development in West Africa and propel the continued rise of the
giant of Africa.
