Girls Basketball: New season, new look The East Noble Lady Knights
Basketball team enters the 2019-20
season, as most teams do, with a
few new faces on the roster. The
good news for the Lady Knights,
however, is graduation in 2019 did
not take its toll on the program.
Junior catalyst, Avan Beiswanger,
is back after missing the entire
2018-19 season due to injury.
Freshman-Bree Walmsley will also
step into some minutes early.
“Avan is back and we will add Bree
to create some depth,” said Head
Coach DeAnn Booth.
5 Juniors return to the line-up, all of
whom started as Sophomores:
Kylie Garton, Karly Kirkpatrick, Carly
Turner, Anna Becker, and Patton.
Turner is the leading returning
scorer at 9.5 PPG. Patton averaged
8.3 points, Garton 6.3, Becker 5.5,
and Kirkpatrick 5.3. Anna Becker
hit 36 Triples a year ago, while
Kirkpatrick made 100+ trips to the
foul line. Senior-Rylee Cripe also
saw valuable minutes as a Junior
last season.
The Knights will look to compete
for an NE8 crown this season in a
highly competitive conference.
Norwell and Bellmont have been
favorites over the last few years
and the Lady Knights of East Noble
are hoping to add their name to
that list.
East Noble will host Sectional 5
this season, a tournament that has
been won by Carroll each of the last
3 seasons. The Lady Knights are the
last team other than Carroll to win
Sectional 5 with a title in 2016.
The Lady Knights will be on the
road for 4 of the first 5 games of
the season before returning to the
Big Blue Pit for a tough
Thanksgiving week schedule with
Carroll and Central Noble coming to
Kendallville.

The East Noble Knights
Swim teams have hoisted 3
Conference Championship
trophies over the last 3 seasons:
2 on the girls side and 1 on the
boys. The Lady Knights will be
looking to defend their 2018-19
title. Like many programs,
graduation opens the line-up
substantially.
“The boys and girls swim and
dive teams are looking forward
to the 2019-20 season,” said
Head Coach Meredith Eakins.
“After losing a large, talented
senior class last year, the
underclassmen are prepared to
step up and fill the holes left.”
The Knights will have close to
40 swimmers on the roster this
winter, many of which are
multi-sport athletes. “Many
athletes put in work all summer
and fall to come into the season
strong,”
said Coach Eakins. “Where as
others will use the conditioning
they gained from fall sports as
they transition into the winter
season.”
The Coaching staff is excited
about about the team atmosphere
in fall workouts and over the
course of the first few weeks of
practice. The Girls team will first
compete at home on November
18 while the boys (who have not
yet begun “official” practices)
will open their season on
December 3.
“It will be an exciting year as
many of the swimmers have
become more versatile in their
strokes and will be able to to
explore new events,” said Coach.
“Returning experienced and
talented divers will be a huge
asset to the team.”

The East Noble Knights
Basketball team will look quite a
bit different in 2019-20. The
Knights, who have gone 42-7 over
the last 2 seasons, lost 3 important
pieces to the puzzle due to
graduation last spring.
Ali Ali, Michael Bender, and
Brent Cox combined for 75% of
the rebounding in 2018-19 along
with over half of the scoring and
minutes played. Gone with the
2019 class is also much of the size
the Knights boasted.
The Knights will return a
couple of players who are more
than capable of putting points on
the scoreboard. Senior – Hayden
Jones has scored 852 career points
entering his senior season. The
6’0, 3-time All-NE8 Point Guard,
will likely join the 1,000 point
club and could become the
school’s all-time career assists
leader by season’s end.
Jones, also known for his
competitive nature and defensive
prowless, will be the anchor in a
much smaller EN defense in
2019-20.
Senior – Nate Dickson is
coming off a breakout Junior
campaign. The 6’0 guard
averaged 9.0 PPG and shot a
staggering 48% from beyond the
3-point arc en route to being
named a 2nd Team All-NE8
performer. Dickson will be
counted on to score in a variety of
ways in 2019-20 as well as taking
an increased roll on the glass.
The Knights could have 6 Seniors
on the roster once the season
begins. Brooks Miller and Luke
Denton, both Seniors, will
provide toughness and grit in an
undersized line-up. Both are
scrappy and had tremendous fall
seasons in football and tennis,
respectively.
P a g e 6 | 15
Luke McCue, another member of the class of 2020,
has had a tremendous fall in team and individual
workouts. McCue brings added length and
athleticism to the line-up.
“We are really excited about this Senior class,”
said Head Coach Ryan Eakins. “These kids have
played a lot of basketball together since 3rd grade and
they know each other well.”
“Hayden and Nate will both be important on the
offensive end of the floor, but the defensive end is
where we need them to make their mark,” said Coach
Eakins. “We must be a team that is committed to the
defensive end of the floor and rebounding the
basketball. Those two areas will allow us to be a
competitive team come tournament time.”
The Knights are unsure of the start of their season
as East Noble’s Football Season continues with its
post-season run. The Knights are scheduled to kick
off the season on November 26 with the traditional trip
to Ligonier and a match-up with the new-look West
Noble Chargers.
East Noble will first be back in the Big Blue Pit on
December 12, hosting Northridge.

Blaine Malott
“Blaine Malott is a hard working senior
who comes into this season off of a great
run last year. He was one match away
from the state finals last season, and we
hope he can make it that next step this
year. Blaine is a great leader on and off of
the mat and we are extremely excited
about what he brings to the table this
season.”
--Head Coach, Sam Riesen
The East Noble Knights
Wrestling team is excited for
the upcoming season!
“We have a quality group of
athletes returning and we look
forward to seeing them
compete this next season,” said
Head Coach Sam Riesen. “We
lost 3 quality wrestlers – all
NE8 Champions last year.”
Those 3 spots of NE8
Champs from last year include
Adam Ledesma, Tanner Stacy,
and Wes Combs.
This season’s team will be
led by a returning state
qualifier (Aidan Sprague-
113*) and two returning semi-
state qualifiers (Blaine Malott-
126*, Garner Owens-
152*). The team also has a
very strong core of leadership
coming from our senior class
(Malott-126*, Caiden Conley-
182*, Noah Schooley-220*,
Leyth Al-Mohamedawi-285*).
To go along with the strong
leadership of the
aforementioned athletes the
team returns several letter
winners from last year, this
group includes returning
regional qualifiers Jalen
Belhumeur- 120*, Jacob
Graden- 170*, and Caden
Conley*- 182.
This year’s goals include
winning the sectional as a team
and producing multiple state
qualifiers, according to Coach
Riesen. “These are all goals
that our team and staff view as
being realistic,” said Coach.
“We hope to reach all of these
goals, but in order to do that we
need to have a room full of kids
and fill each weight class.”
Coach Riesen is also excited to
add a new member to the
coaching staff – Zach Aldrich.
Coach Aldrich will be joining
the team at the conclusion of
football season.

Gymnastics team has begun
workouts and is starting strong.
The Lady Knights will be
looking at 11 young ladies on
the roster this winter.
The Knights return 7 girls
from last year’s squad and will
add 4 new gymnasts to the
roster.
“My goal for this year is to
build on skills mastered from
last year and have clean, solid
routines,” said Head Coach Erin
Weldon. “I want to give a
shout-out to Nevaeh Wolf and
Ally Blackburn. These girls
have shown up to every
conditioning practice and have
worked hard the entire time. I
am very proud of their
commitment to the start of the
season!”
The Knights will officially
begin practice in mid-November
and will compete beginning in
January 2020.

Sadie Coverstone
Sadie Coverstone is a senior who has
played multiple roles on the Munk
Stage. Some of her roles include the
Fairy God Mother in Cinderella, Grace
in Annie, and most recently blew away
audiences with her voice as Donna
Sheridan in Mamma Mia. She has also
appeared in Raise a Ruckus and is a
member of the East Noble Show
Choirs. Sadie wants to go to college
for vocal performance after high
school.
East Noble Theatre is very
busy this time of year. Last
week, auditions were held for
our holiday musical, White
Christmas. “We had a large
group of talented kids show up
and the cast will be wonderful,”
said director Josh Ogle. The
show will showcase some of
Irving Berlin’s classic songs—
some that appeared in the 1954
movie, and some awesome
additions for the staged version.
White Christmas runs
December 5, 6, 7 & 8 at the
Cole Auditorium.
The Theatre is also rehearsing
for their upcoming competition
show called, The Dash. This
was written by the students of
Mr. Ogle’s theatre class. The
story revolves around a man
who doesn’t understand the true
meaning of life, until a few
ghostly friends show him. The
Knights will be taking this
piece of work to the annual
Indiana Regional Thespian
Conference at Bethel College
on Saturday November, 23rd.

East Noble Show Choir will not
be into full swing until after the first
the year. That will not damper any
of the excitement in anticipation for
the upcoming season.
“We are excited to have all three
of our groups competing throughout
the state,” said director Chris
Mettert. “We are hoping to carry on
our traditions of being a finalist in
ISSMA State Finals.”
The Knights will look forward to
January with a large portion of the
last year’s Show Choir returning for
this year’s season.
The first official competition is
January 11 at Bellmont.

The East Noble Knights Football team sits at 11-0 and
ranked #1 in the state of Indiana in class 4A after a convincing
victory over rival DeKalb in front of the home fans last Friday.
The Barons, who finished the season with 8 wins, saw two of its
three losses come at the hands of the East Noble Knights!
The week before, East Noble opened post-season play on the
road in Middlebury against the Northridge Raiders. Bailey
Parker threw for 4 TDs, 3 of which went to Hayden Jones as the
offense put up 6 TDs on the night.
Just as EN did in week 9, the Knights lit up the scoreboard less
than a minute into the game as Junior-Running Back-Justin
Marcellus broke through for a 46-yard Touchdown run. After a
lengthy Raider drive that stalled, Bailey Parker found Rowan
Zolman in the corner of the endzone on 3rd & Goal from the
11-yard line to put the Knights up 14-0.
The Raiders would answer back, getting into Knight territory
with big gain on a double pass. On the next play, a 48-yard TD
run would cut the lead to 14-7. The Knights would answer with
a quality drive that resulted in an 8-yard Bailey Parker TD run
to put the Knights up 21-7 with 5:20 remaining in the first half.
After a stop by the EN defense, the Knights would beat the
clock down the field and Parker would hit Jones from 11 yards
out for 28-7 lead heading into intermission.
The Raiders executed a long drive on their first possession of
the second half that ended in a 1 yd Touchdown run on 4th &
Goal to bring Northridge within 28-14 with 6:59 left in the 3rd.
That was the closest the Raiders would be
the rest of the night as East Noble
answered with a score of their own less
than 2 minutes later on a 15-yard TD pass
from Parker to Jones. Rowan Zolman
would intercept a Northridge pass on their
next possession, his first of 2 interceptions
on the evening.
Two plays later, Bailey Parker rolled out
to his left and found Hayden Jones
crossing the middle of the field. Jones
turned on the afterburners and took it to
the house for a 60-yard score to give the
Knights their 42nd and final point of the
night.
Northridge would add 1 more score to
bring the total to 42-21, but it was too
little too late as the Knight victory sets up
a match-up with rival-DeKalb in
Kendallville next Friday. Parker threw for
4, ran for another, and Justin Marcellus
rushed for the other Knight TD.
P a g e 14 | 15
In the victory over DeKalb, the Knights scored 48
seconds into the game on their 3rd play from scrimmage
and never looked back in a game that saw a running clock
the entire second half.
Bailey Parker set up his 6 yard TD run on the opening
drive with a long run of his own on the play before. Three
minutes later, Parker hooked up with Hayden Jones for the
first of two TD connections on the night from 13 yards out
to put the Knights ahead 14-0 less than 4 minutes into the
game. Only 2:14 later, Parker found TE-Brett Christian
rolling out to his right for a 6-yard score to give the
Knights a 21-0 lead. DeKalb (8-3) threatened and even
drop a pass in stride that would have led to 6 points, but
the Barons could not find a way to put a point on the board
in the 1st half.
Bailey Parker found the endzone again with his legs on a
54-yard TD run late in the 1st quarter to give the Knights a
28-0 lead only 10 minutes into the contest. A back-and-
forth 2nd quarter with multiple flags both ways led to
stalled offensive possessions. Parker would find Jones
again over the middle and Jones shed multiple tacklers for
his 2nd TD of the night, 39 yards on this one and East
Noble led DeKalb 35-0 at the half.
A running 2nd half clock limited possessions for both
teams. DeKalb got onto the scoreboard with 2:10 left in the
3rd quarter on a 3-yard TD run after multiple East Noble
penalties allowed the Baron drive to continue.
Parker found Sophomore-Nick Munson for
a 10-yard score early in the 4th Quarter in what
would be EN’s final score of the night. Dekalb
QB Evan Eshbach threw a 20-yard TD pass in
the 4th quarter for the final points of the
evening.
Parker, who had thrown for 2200 yards and 32
TD’s through 10 games, lit up the stat sheet
again with 4 Touchdowns through the air and 2
more on the ground. Hayden Jones brought his
Touchdown total to 14 on the season and is
nearing 1,000 yards receiving.
The Knights will now play host to Conference
foe – the Leo Lions in the Sectional title game
on Friday, November 8. Kickoff will be set for
7:00 PM.
East Noble is hoping to win its first sectional
since 2003, the year in which the Knights made
it all the way to the RCA Dome while finishing
Runner-up in class 4A. The Knights have
appeared in the Sectional Title game two other
times since 2003. East Noble’s only State
Championship came back in 2000.
