Switch LED Indicators
You can use the LEDs to monitor switch activity and performance.
The locations and numbers of the LEDs vary among switch models.

Port Mode LEDs
Mode LED Port Mode Description
STAT Port status The port status. This is the default mode.
UTIL Switch utilization The bandwidth in use by the switch.
DUPLX Port duplex mode The port duplex mode: half duplex or full duplex.
SPEED Port speed The port operating speed: 10 or 100 Mbps for 10/100 ports and 10, 100, or 1000 Mbps for 10/100/1000 ports.4

Meaning of Port LED
STAT
Off No link present.
Solid Green Link present, but no activity.
Flashing Green Link present with traffic activity.
Alternating Green-Orange
Link fault, error frames.
Solid Orange Port is not forwarding.

Meaning of Port LED Colors
Duplex
OffPort is operating in half-duplex mode.
GreenPort is operating in full-duplex mode.
Speed
Off Port is operating at 10 Mbps.
Green Port is operating at 100 Mbps.
Flashing green
Port is operating at 1000 Mbps.

Switch Configuration
A new switch will have a preset configuration with factory defaults.
Following settings are available to configure for a switch:– IP address (for multi-layer switch)– Interface speed– Duplex operation– MAC address table

Console Connection
A Console Connection is a connection from your computer to the Console Port of a Cisco switch or router.
Cisco routers and switches are managed by using a local console connection or a remote connection to view and make changes to the configuration.
Nearly all Cisco devices have a serial console port to which you can connect.
