1. You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve. Let God be God and let stuff be stuff . What has a real hold on your heart and mind? Money,
stuff , home, activities, sports, fi tness, myself, or even friends or family before Him is foolish.
2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. Is my language pure? Do I drop the Lord’s name more in frustration than in prayer? Do I
curse?
3. Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day. Is Sunday (Saturday evening) the time for Mass? Do I miss Mass intentionally? If I’ve inten-
tionally said, “I’m not or we’re not going this week” without good reason, do we refrain from Communion? Do I take time to actually rest? Do I make other people work on that day?
4. Honor your father and your mother. Do I harbor hatred toward them? Have I not prayed for them? Have I been willing to forgive
them? Have I asked forgiveness from them? Parents, have you honored the name of your role by providing for your children, spiritually and materially? Have your prevented your children from their vocation?
5. You shall not kill. Th is one looks obvious enough but it also covers things like the killing of innocent human life
in the womb, or even encouraging it with a friend or someone you’ve spoken to or supported. It also covers abuse situations, have you harmed (physically, emotionally, spiritually) your wife, kids, or husband? Do you get drunk intentionally or use illegal drugs?
6. You shall not commit adultery. Be faithful to God and your spouse. Have I betrayed anyone? Is my union a blessed and sanc-
tifi ed one by God or simply the state? Have I taken steps to rectify it if possible?
7. You shall not steal. Again, not just for bank robbers . . . do I pay my taxes properly? Do I slack off at work? If I
employ folks, do I make unreasonable demands, extra hours, work on Sundays when unnec-essary?
8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. “Everything that you say must be true . . . not everything that is true needs to be said.” A great
maxim from a wise priest. Do I lie? Do I create stories? Do I betray confi dences? Do I use social media to tear people apart? Am I always playing the victim, poor me, I have been wronged, off ended?
9. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife. Th oughts, if consented to, are sins! If someone could read my mind, would I be worried? If
someone uploaded my internet search history to the Orange County Post, would I be okay with that? Do I keep custody or avoid opportunities for lust?
10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods. Am I always on the hunt for more? Prestige? Infl uence? Jobs? Control?

Th ird Sunday of Lent“Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
LENTTh ere are three Catholic observances we follow during Lent –
Prayer – Fasting – Giving AlmsGiving Alms – What would it cost to take your family out to dinner?
Make a simple meal at home. Use the diff erence to buy items for the Food Pantry. “When you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing”. We are reminded that we are not supposed to make our giving a big deal. Looking for glory defeats the purpose. Ask your child what you as a family can do secretly to help someone else in need. Th e Food Pantry, the animal shelter, a pay it forward moment . . .

Th ird Sunday of LentA READING FROM THE BOOK OF EXODUSIn those days, God delivered all these commandments:“I, the LORD, am your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. You shall not have other gods besides me.You shall not carve idols for yourselves in the shape of anything in the sky above or on the earth below or in the waters beneath the earth; you shall not bow down before them or worship them. For I, the LORD, your God, am a jealous God, infl icting punishment for their fathers’ wickedness on the children of those who hate me, down to the third and fourth generation; but bestowing mercy down to the thousandth generation on the children of those who love me and keep my commandments.
“You shall not take the name of the LORD, your God, in vain. For the LORD will not leave unpunished the one who takes his name in vain.
“Remember to keep holy the sabbath day.Six days you may labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD, your God.No work may be done then either by you, or your son or daughter, or your male or female slave, or your beast, or by the alien who lives with you.In six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them; but on the seventh day he rested.Th at is why the LORD has blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.
“Honor your father and your mother, that you may have a long life in the landwhich the LORD, your God, is giving you.You shall not kill. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male or female slave, nor his ox or ass, nor anything else that belongs to him.” Th e word of the Lord . . . Th anks be to God
RESPONSORIAL PSALM Lord, you have the words of everlasting life.
A READING FROM THE FIRST LETTER OF ST. PAUL TO THE CORINTHIANSBrothers and sisters:Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we proclaim Christ crucifi ed, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those who are called, Jews and Greeks alike, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.
Th e word of the Lord . . . Th anks be to God
A READING FORM THE HOLY GOSPEL ACCORDING TO JOHN Since the Passover of the Jews was near, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. He found in the temple area those who sold oxen, sheep, and doves, as well as the money changers seated there. He made a whip out of cordsand drove them all out of the temple area, with the sheep and oxen, and spilled the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables, and to those who sold doves he said, “Take these out of here, and stop making my Father’s house a marketplace.”His disciples recalled the words of Scripture, Zeal for your house will consume me.At this the Jews answered and said to him, “What sign can you show us for doing this?”Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.”Th e Jews said, “Th is temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and you will raise it up in three days?”But he was speaking about the temple of his body.Th erefore, when he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they came to believe the Scripture and the word Jesus had spoken.
While he was in Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, many began to believe in his name when they saw the signs he was doing. But Jesus would not trust himself to them because he knew them all, and did not need anyone to testify about human nature. He himself understood it well.
Th e Gospel of the Lord . . . Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ
