• When Matt was 4 years old...

• Matt was excited about the birth of Sally a year ago and participated in her care. But he occasionally shows signs of jealousy, such as taking his sister's toys. He is also showing regressive behavior (e.g. clinging, throwing temper tantrums and thumb sucking).

• You realize Matt needs more attention so you and your partner take turns spending extended time in one-on-one activities with him while the other parent is caring for the baby.

• You don't do anything special, as you know the behavior will improve in a short while.

• You take care of two problems at once by getting Matt more involved in the care of the baby. This way he gets attention from you and develops a greater interest and positive attitude toward the baby.

• You make sure Matt is not alone with the baby and has very limited time with her until his behavior improves.

What type of parenting style and discipline would be best for a five

year old child? Why?
