Welcome back to Term 4! Term 4 is always a busy term with the gathering of final National
Standards data for school reports as well as achievement data to be
gathered for the Ministry of Education and the Board of Trustees.
Senior management and the Board of Trustees use the data to decide on
our achievement targets for 2013 and which areas to target in our
budgeting for the following year.
Work is starting on preparing for our school productions later in the
term. The teachers write the scripts to make sure all the children are
actively involved.
School and interschool athletics are the focus on the
sports part of the curriculum as well as small ball activi-
ties such as tennis, cricket and softball skills.
Room 1 and 5 will be heading to Totaranui for their end
of year school camp with Room 4 camping at Collingwood.
Room 3 will be having an overnighter at school with activ-
ities based around the local area, while Room 2 will have
a week of various activities.
Diarmuid is currently organizing an interschool chess
championship for Yr 3/4 , Yr 5/6 and Yr 7/8 students.
The top four players in each year grade, from each
school will compete in the Motupipi Hall on 29th
October.
We have just spent $24,000 over the holidays upgrading
our water supply. New tanks, filtering system and a more
efficient UV light system
have been installed.
Swimming Pool By Friday we hope to have
emptied the pool, given it a
waterblast and started filling it
to prepare for the new season.
Once filled, it takes a while to get the chemical balance correct
as well as getting the temperature level up.
Our next newsletter will let you know when the pool will be
opened, and information on pool key hire.
Initially, in school time, the pool will be open at afternoon
break for a free swim. Compulsory class swimming is not until
later in the year when the pool temperature is more
comfortable for children.
A Few Housekeeping Reminders for the New Term Please remember to phone the school by 9.20am
if your child is absent . This will save Kirsten having to ring to make sure your child is safe.
Please do NOT leave your car unattended in our bus bay between the times of 3.00-3.20. It is fine to stop there after this time when the
Wainui bus has left. There is parking in front of the Motupipi Hall or across the road from the school. If your child is on any bus list and you are picking
them up from school please either phone during the day before 2.45, or speak to the teacher on bus duty (the one with the clipboard) to let them know. This saves us searching for your child.

Motupipi School into the competition to win heaps of cool art and sports equipment, please drop your coupons off to school by the end of this week, at the latest. Entries must be received by the end of the month and need to be posted away straight after the long weekend!

Room 3 has been reading a book about
looking after ducklings and on Tuesday
Patsy Garrett visited with a baby duckling.
In their Literacy programme they are
learning to write ‘fat’ (open ended)
questions.
Here is their interview with Patsy.
What type of duck is it?
A Paradise duck. Where did you get it?
Someone found it on Patons Rock Beach. How old was it?
About one day old. How old is it now?
About 5 weeks old. What does it eat?
I fed it crushed up chook pellets that I mixed with water when it was little. It really likes cooked peas and oysters and mussels. It gobbles them up. Where does it sleep?
It sleeps in a recycling box with a hot water bottle and a heat lamp to keep it warm. How does the duckling get waterproof?
It will get oil from a gland near its tail and then it rubs it on its feathers.
