• 25 July 1920 -16 April 1958• British biophysicist and x-ray crystallographer • King’s College-Birkbeck College• She used X-ray diffraction to view DNA• James Watson and Francis Crick used
Franklin’s data to build 3D models of the structure of DNA (helical structure) after attending one oh her presentations in London.
• Aaron Klug was her assistant (Nobel Laureate 1982)
• Completed a model of TMV (tobacco mosaic virus)
• RNAss in TMV is wound along the inner surface of the hollow virus

• 8th women (out of 36) to receive the Nobel Prize in
Physiology & Medicine 2008 shared with Luc Montagnier,
and also Harald zur Hausen (human papilloma virus-cervical
cancer-)
• for their discovery of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
isolated from lymphocytes and blood of patients (1984)
• Causes Acquired Human Immunodeficiency Syndrome
(AIDS) (1981) afecting 1% of the population
• 1st known human lentivirus
• detected activity of the retroviral enzyme RT (retrovirus)

• Worldwide initiatives:RNA Society celebrates a "Women in Science" dinner at
every meeting.
L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards are
awarded annually to 5 outstanding female scientists worldwide.
One Award Laureate is named from each of five continents: Africa,
Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North America. The
Laureates receive individual awards of US$ 100,000.
Commemorating the International Women’s Day (March 6th),
receive the award at a ceremony in Paris.

impact factor article as last author

In case of same journal or equal corresponding, prize will be shared among authors
VITAL Coordinator and also EC officer likes the idea (coordinator will request
authorization from each partner to take 100-150 €/partner budget) Sponsors will be
looked for to find extra funding.
