It is a popular misconception thatHollywood is an affluent part of

Los Angeles, the “home of the stars”.

In reality, however, Hollywoodis a low-income area with many

unfortunate and homeless people.

Over the course of a year, an estimated 254,000 men,

women, and children experience homelessness in Los

Angeles…

… Over four times the total amount of people who live in Palo Alto!

Each night in Los Angeles, ninety thousand people do not have

a home to sleep in.

That’s one and a half times more than the entire population of

Palo Alto!

20% to 43% of all homeless people in the

LA area belong to families, typically headed by a single

mother.

48% of the Hollywood homeless have graduated

from high school, and 32% have a bachelor’s degree or higher. Interestingly, those in Hollywood who possess homes are less educated.

41% of the homeless adults in LA were

employed in the last year.

There are 4,800 to 10,000homeless youth in

Los Angeles.

Unaccompanied youth are especially common in the

Hollywood area because many of them left home and came

to Hollywood hoping to become stars.

A two-bedroom apartment in LA costs $1500 to $2400 per month…

…Which is 65% to 83% of a minimum-wage worker’s income.
