matt BOS
Head Coach
Experience: 1st Season Alma Mater: Eastern Illinois ‘00
On May 24, 2011, IUPUI Di-rector of Athletics Mike Moore announced that Matt Bos would take over as head coach of the IUPUI men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs, becoming the second swimming and diving coach in IUPUI history.
“I am thrilled for this opportunity to lead the swimming and diving programs at IUPUI,” Bos said. “There is a lot of potential here considering we compete in one of the fi nest facilities in the country and there is already a strong diving program in place.” “I’m pleased that Matt has elected to lead our swimming and diving programs,” Moore said. “He is committed to re-cruiting, retaining and graduating IUPUI champions. I look forward to great things in and out of the pool.” Bos spent the previous three seasons as the leader for the men’s and women’s program at his alma mater, Eastern Illinois, where he replaced long-time head coach, Ray Pa-dovan, in July of 2008. In his fi rst season as the EIU head coach, Bos helped eight Panthers swimmers to 2009 All-Summit League honors, with four earning spots from both the men’s and women’s sides.
During the 2008-09 campaign, the Panthers squads notched an amazing 37 spots on the EIU Top Ten Times chart, including setting new Eastern Illinois records in ten different events. In three seasons on the Charleston, Ill., campus, Bos saw 37 school records fall while mentoring 33 All-Summit League performers, including the 2009 Summit League Newcomer of the Year, Ken Tiltges. Outside of the pool, Bos also saw 24 of his EIU athletes achieve Academic All-Summit League plaudits.
Prior to returning to EIU, Bos spent three years as the head swim coach for the San Antonio Wave, a top swim club in Texas. During his tenure, he has coached several Junior and Senior National qualifi ers including Jimmy Feigen, who set two National High School records and is an 11-time All-American and six-time Big 12 Champion as he enters his senior season at the University of Texas.
Preceding his time in San Antonio, Bos worked for a year and a half as the coaching director at Swimming Wanganui in New Zealand. While abroad, he helped coach athletes from seven different countries with his squad earning its fi rst-ever Top-20 national ranking in 2004-05. Bos also coached Annabel Kosten, who would go on to earn a bronze medal in the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics as a member of the Dutch 400 freestyle relay team.
Bos was a two-year graduate assistant coach at Eastern Illinois from 2000-02, before working for a season as an assistant coach at Trinity University, an NCAA Division III school in San Antonio. In 2003-04 Bos was the head coach for the Swordfi sh Swim Team and assistant coach for Niles West High School in Skokie, Illinois. During his time as a graduate assistant, he helped coach the Panthers to the 2002 Midwest Classic Championship.
Bos is a ASCA level 4 certifi ed coach and earned both his bachelor’s (2000) and masters (2002) degrees from EIU as a member of the Panthers swim team from 1996-2000. He was a two-time Midwest Classic Champion in the breast-stroke and was named team captain as a senior in 2000. He and his wife Amanda, a former Division I swimmer, have a two-year old daughter, Annisten, and two dogs, Tui and Wrigley.

In just a
short time
on the IUPUI
campus, Chen
Ni has rewritten
the IUPUI record
books and become
one of the most
accomplished athletes
in Jaguars history.
In 2010, Ni became the rst
IUPUI athlete to win a National
Championship in any sport winning
the platform diving competition. After
sitting in second place following one dive at
the 2010 NCAA Championships, Ni’s back 2 1/2
somersault pike, receiving scores of 9.0-9.0-9.0-9.0-
9.0-9.0-9.5 from the judges for a total score of 78.30 on
the dive when factoring the 2.9 degree of di culty, put her
in front for good.
As a result of claiming a National Championship, Ni was tabbed
an All-American for the second consecutive year. What makes that
honor so signi cant is that prior to reaching All-American status the
previous year, no IUPUI athlete before her had earned All-American
accolades.
In three years of competition, Ni is a six-time all-conference performer (three-time
honoree in the one- and three-meter dives), and was named the Summit League
Diver of the Year in 2009.
Ni is rmly entrenched on the IUPUI career charts as the school-record holder in the one-
meter dive, three-meter dive, and the platform dive. She has posted the Top 15 marks in
program history in both the one-and three-meter dives, while also owning the Summit League
record in the three-meter dive.
What makes Ni’s story so impressive is that Chen was raised in China and came to the United
States four years ago in pursuit of a degree and a dream of competitively diving on the national
stage. Her time at IUPUI began with a very limited English background and in her four years
since arriving in Indianapolis, Ni is comfortable speaking English, she is learning Spanish, and
she recently became one of the newest 26 IUPUI Champions to earn a degree.
With one year of eligibility remaining, Ni has her sights set on helping the Jaguars move up
the Summit League standings, return to the NCAA Championships, and qualify for the U.S.
Olympic Diving Team.

The IUPUI Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 1993 by the IUPUI Letterman’s Club (now Jaguars Letter Club) in cooperation with the IUPUI Athletics Department, the IU and Purdue Alumni Associations and the IUPUI Metro Athletic Club (now Jaguars Athletics Club). The Hall of Fame recognizes and honors those individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the achievements and prestige of IUPUI in the fi eld of athletics and who have continued to demonstrate in their lives the values imparted by intercollegiate athletics. The IUPUI Jaguars Letter Club was founded in 1993 by the IUPUI Offi ce of Alumni Relations. The purpose of the club is to unite former student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers and managers in support of the IUPUI athletic pro-gram. Through 2011, the IUPUI Hall of Fame includes 50 individuals and one team.

The birth of the intercollegiate athletics program at IUPUI
occurred January 14, 1971, when the Faculty Council approved a
recommendation from its Athletics Affairs Committee that “IUPUI
engage in intercollegiate sports and become a regular member of the
NCAA as soon as possible.”
In making its recommendations, the committee said it felt that
“intercollegiate sports were necessary to complete the University’s
relationship to the community at large and to its alumni.” The
committee went on to say that it felt that an intercollegiate program
would be “a positive morale factor for students and would help
develop an identifi cation with the institution.”
After playing an abbreviated men’s basketball schedule in early
1972, the IUPUI intercollegiate athletics program offi cially began
competition during the 1972-73 academic year with that program
serving as the university’s fi rst varsity sport. The men’s program
offerings expanded during the 1974-75 season with the addition
of golf and tennis to varsity status, and then again in the 1987-88
academic year when soccer gained varsity status. Baseball replaced
golf as a varsity sport during the 1979-80 campaign. Men’s golf was
reintroduced to the intercollegiate lineup in 1994-95.
Intercollegiate athletics at IUPUI expanded to include women’s
sports in 1975-76, with the introduction of basketball, softball and
volleyball as varsity sports. Women’s tennis was added in 1989-90.
IUPUI received national acclaim in the sports world in 1987 when
the Pan American Games were hosted in Indianapolis and on the
downtown campus. With the hosting of the event, world class facilities
for swimming, track, soccer and softball were built across the south
end of campus and are still utilized by IUPUI teams.
With the addition of men’s and women’s cross country and
women’s swimming and diving in the fall of 1997, the IUPUI
intercollegiate athletic program was represented by 12 intercollegiate
teams that completed at the NCAA Division II level.
In the beginning, the intercollegiate program was unaffi liated
except for an associate membership in the NCAA. In 1978, IUPUI
joined the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA),
and in January of 1993, the institution’s application for membership in
Division II of the NCAA was approved.
While affi liated with the NAIA, IUPUI teams won 32 state and
regional championships. IUPUI reached the Sweet Sixteen in men’s
basketball (1989-90), the Final Four in women’s basketball (1990-
91) and fi nished second nationally in women’s volleyball (1991-92).
Beginning in 1983, the IUPUI softball team made nine consecutive
appearances in the NAIA National Tournament, fi nishing as high as
third on three occasions.
Intercollegiate athletics at IUPUI made its way to the NCAA Div
sion I level as the Trustees of Indiana University approved the move
at their Oct. 30, 1997 meeting in New Albany. That opened the door
for IUPUI to join a new level of competition in the NCAA.
IUPUI then was admitted into The Summit League (formerly
Mid-Continent Conference), announced just 12 days later at a press
conference on the campus of IUPUI. Upon entrance to the Mid-Con,
IUPUI was involved in scheduling and competition for championships
beginning in the 1998-99 academic year. The addition of men’s
swimming and diving and women’s soccer in the fall of 1998 brought
IUPUI’s total to 14 sports. The total was bumped to 15 on Oct. 20,
1999, when the university announced that women’s golf would
become a varsity sport starting in 2000. The total dropped back to
its current 14 when the university announced on May 18, 2001, the
discontinuation of the baseball program. In 2011, the sport offerings
increased to 16 as both men’s and women’s track and fi eld were
added.
IUPUI has enjoyed considerable success as a Division I school,
not only athletically, but academically.
During the 2009-10 campaign, women’s diver Chen Ni
became the fi rst IUPUI student-athlete to win an NCAA National
Championship, earning the top spot in the country in the platform
event. Moreso, she
became the fi rst
female student-athlete
in Summit League
history to earn a
national crown.
Collectively,
IUPUI teams have
earned NCAA
Tournament bids in
men’s soccer, men’s
golf, men’s basketball,
women’s tennis and
most recently women’s
soccer. In addition,
IUPUI teams have
captured regular
season crowns in
volleyball and men’s
tennis.
IUPUI student-
athletes have been
recognized as Summit
League Athletes of
the Year 16 times,
with coaches earning
numerous Coach
of the Year honors.
IUPUI’s athletic teams
have also excelled in
the classroom. The
women’s tennis team has been chosen as an All-Academic Team by
the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for seven straight years. The
men’s cross country team has been recognized by the United States
Cross Country Coaches Association as Academic All-American the
past seven seasons, while the women’s team earned the same honor
from the Women’s Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association
nine/ times. In 2001-02, the women’s basketball team was selected
by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association to its Top 25 Honor
Roll. In the fall of 2002, the athletic department as a whole was
honored by The USA Today and the NCAA for having the highest
improvement in graduation rate in the country for its category. In 2003,
The USA Today and NCAA recognized IUPUI again - this time for
graduating more than the previously counted cohort.
Individually, IUPUI has had three student-athletes earn First
Team Academic All-America honors, while making a precedent of
ranking among the conference leaders in academic honorees.
IUPUI has also established a pattern of commitment to serving
their community. The Jaguars have averaged over nearly 1,000
hours of community service the past fi ve years, taking part in youth
clinics, hosting a Canned Food Drive and Adopt-A-Family programs
and participating in several charity walk-a-thons. Head Basketball
Coach Ron Hunter earned national acclaim in 2007-08, partnering
with Samaritan’s Feet to raise shoes for impoverished children
across the world. He and members of his program later traveled
to Costa Rica and Peru to personally deliver the shoes to needy
children. Additionally, the Athletics department has partnered with
IPS School 42 on a reading program in an effort to improve reading
comprehension and career networking.
Chen Ni (above) won the 2010 NCAA Division I Platform Diving Championship, becoming the fi rst Summit League female to win a national crown.
The IUPUI Athletics Department began with the men’s basketball program competing in 1972.

“Ascending” and “improving” are adjectives frequently used in
media coverage of The Summit League as it continues a renaissance on the playing Þ eld and in the classroom.
As The Summit League celebrates its 30th anniversary season as an NCAA Division I athletics conference, the level of performance
and achievement among the 11 member institutions and over 3,000 student-athletes in 19 championship sports continues to grow.
Since 2007, The Summit League has produced 39 All-Americans
and 28 Academic All-America selections along with three NCAA Champions, two NBA Draft choices and one Olympic Silver
medalist.
Headlining The Summit League’s most recent history were the
additions of the University of South Dakota and the University of
Nebraska Omaha to its membership. USD joined in 2009 and the
2011-12 academic year marks its Þ rst year of full league competition.
UNO’s membership took effect on July 1, 2011 and it will begin league competition in 2012-13.
The Summit League’s visibility continues to expand on several
fronts. The 2011 Baseball Championship drew a record 5,128 fans, topping the previous high by almost 1,500. Another successful
Summit League Basketball Championship totaled a combined
attendance of over 32,000 which ranked as the second-highest
Þ gure in league history while the men’s tournament was one of just
six outside the traditional “power conferences” to average 4,400 or
better per session.
Television exposure also increased with the broadcasts of four
Summit League sport championships in 2010-11. For the second
consecutive season, all 14 men’s and women’s basketball tournament
games were televised live, including the women’s championship on ESPNU and the men’s on ESPN2. Furthermore, The Summit League
Outdoor Track and Field Championships were televised for the Þ rst
time and the league’s entire Baseball Tournament was carried live,
marking another Þ rst.
The national reach of The Summit League was furthered when
three member institutions hosted 2010-11 NCAA Championship
events. IUPUI was a quad-host for the Women’s Basketball Final Four,
UMKC co-hosted the Volleyball Championship and Oakland hosted
the Great Lakes Cross Country Regional Championship. In 2013,
Oakland will host the Men’s Basketball Second and Third Rounds and IUPUI will serve as co-host for a Men’s Basketball Regional.
In men’s basketball, The Summit League ranked No. 18 in the
Sagarin Ratings, placing four teams among the top 150 and six in the top 200. In the Mid-Major Top 25 poll, league champion
Oakland ranked No. 5 with two Þ rst-place votes entering the NCAA
Tournament, putting them ahead of two Final Four participants,
including the national runner-up. The Summit League set a league-
record by playing 16 games against AP nationally-ranked teams, the
highest total among mid-majors, including seven top-10 opponents,
highlighted by Oakland’s win at then-No. 7 Tennessee.
Women’s basketball joined the men in sending multiple teams to
the postseason with three teams advancing for the second-straight
year, including Oral Roberts, which reached the WNIT’s round of
16 to match the league’s deepest run in that tournament. Summit
League teams combined to record four victories over “power six”
conference foes during the season.
Individually on the hardwood, Oakland’s Keith Benson was selected in the second round of the 2011 NBA Draft by the Atlanta
Hawks and Oral Roberts’ Steven Roundtree was named Mid-Major Freshman of the Year by CollegeInsider.com. On the women’s side,
ORU’s Kevi Luper became the Þ rst player in NCAA history to lead
the nation in both points per game and steals per game in the same
season.
Several teams continued impressive championship streaks within
the league in 2010-11. Oral Roberts, which Þ nished the season nationally-ranked, won its 14th-straight baseball title, tying for the
second-longest streak in NCAA history. Oakland captured its 12th-
consecutive men’s and women’s swimming and diving titles while
North Dakota State won its fourth-straight men’s and women’s
indoor track and Þ eld championships and its third softball crown in a row. South Dakota State became the Þ rst women’s basketball team
to win three consecutive league championships. The Summit League enjoyed a successful track and Þ eld season
with eight All-Americans, including six at the NCAA Outdoor
Championships. Oral Roberts’ Jack Whitt Þ nished as runner-up in the
pole vault at the Outdoor Championships after placing third indoors. North Dakota State’s Whitney Carlson became the Þ rst female
athlete in league history to earn All-America honors in two events at
both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships during the same year.
Two Summit League student-athletes received the prestigious NCAA Elite 88 Award, given to the student-athlete with the highest
cumulative grade-point average participating at the Þ nals site for
each of the NCAA championships. Amy Anderson (women’s golf) and Carlson (outdoor track and Þ eld), both from North Dakota State,
the lone non-FBS public university to have multiple recipients, were
presented with the honor and added All-America honors for their
athletic performances.
Anderson led the league’s individual accomplishments, placing
12th at the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships, the highest Þ nish
ever by a Summit League player, and competing as an amateur in
the U.S. Women’s Open. IPFW’s Amy Recht claimed her fourth
consecutive Women’s Tennis Player of the Year honor and became
the Þ rst Summit League athlete to win the sport’s top award in each
season of eligibility.
Academically, six Summit League student-athletes received

Bahamas’ 4x400-meter relay team after winning both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor 400-
meter titles and IUPUI’s George Hill became The Summit League’s second NBA Þ rst round
draft pick.
Originally formed in 1982 as the Association of Mid-Continent Universities and later known
as the Mid-Continent Conference, The Summit League is in its Þ fth year of rebranding that
followed its 25th anniversary and coincided with the Summit Plan, a strategic plan that
places a renewed emphasis on improving the academic and athletic performances of all
league student-athletes. Included in the plan was the league’s new name, the creation of a
new image and the addition of three member institutions.
The Summit League has a combined enrollment of over 135,000 at 11 universities, Þ ve
of which are located in the top 76 U.S. media markets (Detroit, Indianapolis, Kansas City,
Tulsa and Omaha). Member institutions include: IPFW (Indiana University-Purdue University-
Fort Wayne), IUPUI (Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis), UMKC (University of
Missouri-Kansas City), the University of Nebraska Omaha (which begins league competition
in 2012-13), North Dakota State University, Oakland University, Oral Roberts University, the
University of South Dakota (in its Þ rst year as a full member), South Dakota State University,
Southern Utah University and Western Illinois University. Eastern Illinois University is an
associate member in swimming and diving and men’s soccer.
These member institutions pride themselves on providing quality athletic, academic and
social experiences for their student-athletes.
The Summit League sponsors 19 championship sports: baseball, men’s and women’s
basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s
soccer, softball, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s indoor
track and Þ eld, men’s and women’s outdoor track and Þ eld, men’s and women’s tennis, and
volleyball. The league champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in all
applicable sports.
Since its inception in 1982, The Summit League has had several transcendent moments
on the national stage. In 1986, Cleveland State upset third-seeded Indiana in the Þ rst round
of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on its way to a berth in the Sweet 16. A decade
later, Valparaiso captured the nation’s attention when Bryce Drew hit “the shot” to defeat
No. 4 seed Mississippi in an NCAA Þ rst-round game and spark its Sweet 16 run.
More recently, Oral Roberts’ baseball program Þ nished the 2004 campaign with a national-
ranking and became the Þ rst Summit League school to reach an NCAA Super Regional in
2006. Three years later, North Dakota State’s 2009 softball team became the Þ rst League
member to win an NCAA regional and advance to the Super Regional round. During the
2008-09 basketball season, South Dakota State’s women’s team was nationally-ranked
throughout the year and capped its season with an NCAA Tournament Þ rst round victory.
The League has produced Þ ve NCAA champions, four Olympic athletes and several All-
Americans in the sports of track and Þ eld, swimming and diving and cross country. Numerous
professional athletes and several draft choices have come directly from The Summit League,
including three Major League Baseball Þ rst round picks, a pair of NBA Þ rst rounders, and one
WNBA selection. Former Summit Leaguer Kevin Duckworth (NBA) was a two-time all-star
during his professional career.
Recent and historical success coupled with an increased growth among its membership
base gives The Summit League a promising future on the landscape of college athletics.
ASSOCIATE MEMBER: Eastern Illinois University competes as an associate member in swimming and diving and men’s soccer.
One of the Summit League’s most iconic moments came when Valparaiso’s Bryce Drew hit “the shot”, a
game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer, to top Mississippi in the Þ rst round of the 1998 NCAA Tournament.
Valpo’s story captivated the nation as they became the league’s second team to reach the “Sweet 16.”

Charles R. BantzwwChancellor In 2003, Charles Bantz became chancellor of IUPUI—Indiana’s urban public research university—serving 30,000 students. A highlight of his academic leadership is elevating the public perception of IUPUI as “Destination Health and Life Sci-ences” and strategically focusing campus efforts in areas of economic development important to the state. Another focus has been enhancing undergraduate education. He has been an eloquent advocate for undergradu-ate, graduate, and professional programs that help keep graduates in Indiana. He has been active in fostering diversity and encouraging better math, science, engineering, and technology education. He is deeply involved in the community through service on the Executive Committee of the United Way of Central Indiana and several other boards. He has been active nationally on matters of importance to the higher education community, including being a member of the NCAA Division I Board of Directors and the NCAA’s Executive Committee. He is Vice Chair of the Coalition of Urban Serving Universities and Chair of the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities’ Commission on Urban Initiatives. He is also a member of the American Council on Education’s Commission on International Initiatives.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in English education from the University of Minnesota, a master’s degree in speech communication from the Uni-versity of Minnesota, and a Ph.D. from Ohio State University in communication. He is an accomplished scholar who has published on subjects such as organizational communication, television news, and social confl ict.
Andrew KleinwwChief of Staff, Offi ce of the Chancellor Andrew R. Klein joined the faculty in 2000 and is the Paul E. Beam Professor of Law. Previously, Professor Klein
taught at Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law and practiced with the Chicago fi rm of Sidley & Austin. Professor
Klein earned a B.A. with distinction in journalism and economics from the University of Wisconsin and a J.D. with distinction
from the Emory University School of Law, where he studied as a Robert W. Woodruff Fellow in Law and was editor-in-chief
of the Emory Law Journal.
Professor Klein’s scholarship focuses on the intersection of tort and environmental law. He is co-author of a case-
book, Torts: Cases, Problems and Exercises (Lexis/Nexis 3rd ed. 2009), and a student-oriented textbook, Mastering Tort
Law (Carolina Academic Press 2009). He is currently working with a group of co-authors on a new casebook, Toxic and
Environmental Torts: Cases and Materials (Thomson/West forthcoming 2011).

dianapolis Bar Foundation. In addition, Professor Klein is a dedicated classroom teacher who has won nine student teaching
awards during his career. He is a national lecturer on tort law for BarBri Bar Review.
Michael MoorewwDirector of Athletics Michael R. Moore has served as IUPUI’s Director of Athletics since July 1, 1996. During his tenure, he has overseen
IUPUI’s growth from its beginning as a NCAA Divison I member to winning its fi rst NCAA championship in March 2010.
In his 15-year span in charge of the Jaguars, IUPUIDivision has been accepted as a member of The Summit League
(formerly Mid-Continent Conference), was fully certifi ed under the NCAA Athletics Certifi cation Program and has expanded
from nine to 16 varsity programs (seven men and nine women).
Under Moore’s direction, IUPUI has experienced both athletic and academic success. The 2000 men’s soccer team
made the fi rst NCAA Tournament in IUPUI’s history. Since then, women’s tennis (2003, 2004), men’s golf (2002, 2005),
men’s basketball (2003) and women’s soccer (2009) have all participated in NCAA Championships. The men’s soccer
(1999), volleyball (2000), men’s tennis (2004) and women’s soccer (2008, 2009) teams have won regular season league
titles. IUPUI also captured USA Today/NCAA Academic Achievement Awards in 2002 and 2003.
In March 2010, IUPUI crowned its fi rst NCAA titlist, as diver Chen Ni claimed fi rst place on the platform, marking
another milestone in the school’s athletics history.
Leading into the 2009-10 academic year, Moore restructured IUPUI’s academic support system, resulting in record
highs in 3.0 student-athletes and departmental grade point averages. In May 2010, the departmental GPA reached an all-time high of 3.081, while 59
student-athletes received recognition on the Summit League Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence, and 125 Jaguars earned a place on the con-
ference’s All-Academic Teams.
During his time at IUPUI, Moore has served in multiple leadership positions, both within The Summit League and the NCAA. Moore worked as
Chair of the Mid-Continent Conference Joint Council and as President of the NCAA I-AAA Athletics Director Association in 2003-04. Moore has also
served multiple times as a peer reviewer in the NCAA Division I Certifi cation Program. He currently serves as chair of the Summit League Men’s Basket-
ball Committee.
He served as the Summit League’s representative to the NCAA Division I Management Council from 2001-2008. While on the Management Coun-
cil, he served on the Administrative Review Sub-Committee, acting as Chair in 2007-2008, and also on the Governance Sub-Committee.
Prior to assuming his present position, the Lancaster, Ohio-native was the Senior Associate Director of Athletics and Development at the University
of Evansville from 1988-96. In that position, he supervised the Purple Aces Club, began the in house production of the Aces Radio Network, instituted
the university licensing program and coordinated special events on campus. He was the university’s assistant athletic director for budgetary affairs from
1983-88.
Moore also worked at Davidson College from 1981-1983 as Assistant Director of the Wildcat Club. In that position, Moore was responsible for
the ticket operation, regional fundraising, marketing and promotions, game management and special events. Moore began his career in intercollegiate
athletics as an Intern in the Vanderbilt University athletics department in 1980.
Moore received both his undergraduate (BA, History ’78) and Masters (Sports Administration ’80) Degrees from Ohio University. He also earned a
certifi cate from The Sports Management Institute in 1994.
Michael and his wife, Suzann reside in Indianapolis. He has two daughters, Maggie and Molly.

Did you know that the IUPUI Athletics Department pays out nearly $1.5 million annually in athletics aid to student-athletes? Last year, the IUPUI Jaguars Athletics Club (JAC) saw a nearly 6 percent growth in donor participation. Club members enjoy many benefi ts including invitations to special events, a weekly elec-tronic newsletter, pregame hospitality at home basketball games and tax deductions. wwAre you in?
Help us meet the urgent scholarship needs of the IUPUI Athletics Department and make your contribution by calling John Rasmussen at 317-274-5453. Below is a comprehensive list-ing of the 2010-11 JAC donors.

The Jaguars Athletics Club’s (JAC) primary purpose is to raise scholarship funds to build, support and maintain a competitive fi rst-class Division I athletics program for student-athletes in 14 intercollegiate sports (men’s basketball, cross country, golf, soc-cer, swimming & diving and tennis and women’s basketball cross, country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis and volleyball). Supporting intercollegiate athletics invests in our future by providing scholarship aid to student-athletes. In addition, intercollegiate athletics offers the student-athlete an opportunity to develop leadership, discipline, camaraderie and initiative, while pursuing academic goals. Over the course of a year, the JAC hosts numerous special events to help spur on the effort. The events allow IUPUI student-athletes, coaches and administrators the op-portunity to foster positive relationships with infl uential members of the Indianapolis-com-munity. The events also help build a connection with IUPUI alumni and current student-athletes.
The Senior Dinner is a year-end
celebration of the careers of IUPUI
student-athletes. 2011, Brittney
McDuffee and Aaron Kremer (left) were
awarded the Mel Garland Distinguished
Student-Athlete Awards at the
conclusion of the event.
The Jag Jaunt for Women’s
Scholarships (below) is in its fourth
year and helps provide educational and
athletic opportunities for female student-
athletes. In its fi rst three years, the event
raised over $15,000 towards athletic
scholarships.
The Michael A. Carroll Golf Outing
(bottom) recently completed its 31st year
in existence and raises approximately
$30,000 annually for student-athlete
scholarships. One top student-athlete
is honored with a scholarship in Mike
Carroll’s name annually.
wwMICHAEL A. CARROLL GOLF OUTING
It is diffi cult to overstate the importance of the late
Michael A. Carroll to the birth and development of the
IUPUI Athletics program. For more than a decade, he
was its number one advocate, fundraiser and cheer-
leader. In 1981, he organized what is now the Jaguars
Athletics Club. A year later, he coordinated the IUPUI
fund raising golf outing that now bears his name. Until
his untimely death in a 1992 mid-air plane crash, the
former Lilly Endowment executive nurtured, nudged
and lassoed many Indianapolis business leaders to
share his vision for a “big league” collegiate athletics
program at IUPUI.
Although he carried other enormous responsibilities
in a civic and political career that spanned 25 years,
IUPUI’s growth seemed to be Mike’s most enthusias-
tic avocation. IUPUI’s evolution into NCAA Division
I status would have left him beaming. However, he
would have been the fi rst to remind us that IUPUI is
still a masterpiece in progress, never a fi nished work
of art!
wwBASKETBALL TIPOFF LUNCHEON
The drive to the men’s and women’s basketball
NCAA Tournaments begin with the annual tipoff
luncheon. This is your chance to meet the men’s and
women’s basketball teams and hear a preview of the
upcoming season from Head Coaches Todd Howard
and Austin Parkinson. Widely known as one of the de-
partment’s marquee events, the day typically features
cutting edge multimedia in an intimate atmosphere
and entertaining commentary from both coaches.
wwJAG JAUNT - WALK FOR WOMEN’S
SCHOLARSHIPS
The goal of the IUPUI Athletics Department is to
provide students with the opportunity to compete in
athletics while at the same time, earn a degree from
one of the top two academic programs in the country.
One way to provide such opportunities is through this
relatively new fall event, designed to raise money for
women’s scholarships. With more scholarship dollars,
more female students will have a chance at higher
education. In 2010, the event was restructured to
include a 5K run around the canal and a 3K family
friendly walk along the same course.
wwSENIOR STUDENT-ATHLETE BRUNCH
The mission of the Senior Brunch is simple - to
celebrate the distinguished academic and athletic
careers of IUPUI’s graduating student-athletes. In its
sixth year of existence, the Senior Brunch also marks
the day when the end-of-year major awards are pre-
sented and announced to the public. Each senior is
given a framed photo commemorating their contribu-
tions to the program while four-year letterwinners are
awarded a ring.
