(Boston,MA)LeslieWilcox’ssoloexhibitionofnewsculptureLEEPS:LeapofFaithForward,willbeonviewatBostonSculptorsGalleryNovember16throughDecember18,2016.LEEPSbeginsanexistentialjourneyofexplorationintotheconcept“LeapofFaith.”Thisshowfeaturesanimatedinterpretationscreatedfromdriftwoodandenhancedwithfiberglass,plastic,andmetalwirescreening.Definedas“movingforwardwithadecisioninspiteofcontraryinformation,”aLeapofFaithallowsWilcoxtorenderdiscardedwoodendebrisintocompellingvibrantsculptures.Bypushingbeyondfactsandtheobvious,sheshattersexpectationsandfacilitatescomprehensionthroughpureintuition,leadingdirectlyintotherealmoftheunknown.ScholarHustonCummingsSmithcallsLeapofFaith“awayofseeingratherthanthinking,”whilebiologistandtheoristE.O.Wilsonconsidersit“anactofwillcombiningreasonandemotion.”ActressAgnesdeMilleisquotedassaying,“Theartistneverentirelyknowswhat’snextorhow.Weguess.Wemaybewrong,butwetakeleapafterleapinthedark.”ThisexhibitionisWilcox’sthirdinatrilogyofBostonSculptorsGalleryshowsoverthepastsixyears.FEARSOME,LOATHABLES,andnowLEEPS,alladdressconceptsoffear,loathing,andleapoffaiththroughanthropomorphizingdeadwoodacquiredfromlandandsea.LEEPS:LeapofFaithForwardrunsconcurrentlywithSeaChangebySallyS.Fine.
