Interoperability: Toward Dynamic Manufacturing Network and Manufacturing Standards test bedWorkshop “Interoperability and PLM” 18th of February 2014Dr Nicolas Figay, Airbus Group Innovations
Business Context - Current trendsAerospace & Defense domain• Single Product/multiple partners context• System Engineering, Product Lifecycle
Management, Concurrent Engineering, Virtual Enterprise, Integration Enterprise Factory
• Focus on the Virtual Digital Product and Design Phase
• Product & Process data exchange and sharing based on open eBusiness Standards strategic importance of these standards
• Emerging PLM hubs based on proprietary solutions
Industrial sharing of an Aircraft
Problematic addressed at Airbus Innovations
• Globalization and Virtualization of enterprises• Computer used everywhere
– Digital artifacts, information and communication– Computer aided activities with automated services
• Secured eBusiness collaboration• Collaborative tools and environments
Interoperability between (technical) enterprise applications
within networked organizations
PLM interoperability based on standardsHow to achieve at an acceptable price “pragmatic” and continuous
interoperability between enterprise applications in order to support digital collaboration within networked organizations in an evolving global environment?
How to take advantage of existing and relevant interoperability tools, emerging technologies and paradigms, and to combine them?
How to define an overall framework allowing to achieve targeted interoperability for an eBusiness ecosystem, building a collaborative infrastructure and mature composite community?

STANDARD INTEROPERABILITY PLM (SIP) PLM STANDARDS TEST BED FOR AN OPEN COMMUNITY• Testing methodology and capabilities• Support activities of implementor forums• Testing and assessing standards and the
processes implementing them before testing software product solutions
• Creation of an open community with interoperability maturity
SIP: Manufacturing Standards Test Bed for InteroperabilityObjectives and principles
SIP = new testing methodology and associated capabilities (derived from IMAGINE Living Lab) for developing, assessing, combining the PLM standards and process implementations before to test
commercial solutions

SIP = creating a place where Industry (OEM and SMEs), researchers and PLM standards experts can meet and built jointly the expected interoperability maturity
Already available and coming soon…
• “Toward Dynamic Manufacturing Network and Manufacturing Standards test bed” at I’ESA 2014” – paper that will be presented at I’ESA 2014 conference
• Demonstration during Future at System X the 6th of March 2014 at Saclay
• First day of the academic circle – Mid 2014• And many more – let’s follow us
Conclusion• Set of research projects and results for establishing required
continuous operational interoperability at an acceptable price, in order supporting Networked Collaborative Product Development
• The road is long, let’s build and implement the roadmap together – French industry and researchers
• Mixing Software engineering and Industrial engineering is a pre-requisite
• Impact of new technologies: HTML5, RESTful (Representational state transfer) architecture, Big data and NoSQL, etc.
• Emerging « Internet of things » will probably accelerate the things
