26 April 2019 Welcome back! I hope all of our families had an enjoyable and restful break. I’ve heard lots of stories of beach visits, dinners with family and Easter egg hunts! I know our staff are rejuvenated by their holiday experiences and I trust that the rest of our community are too. On-site Works We have had a number of jobs completed over the holiday period. There were sections of concreting replaced at the back of our gymnasium and also in between the main building and wetlands. Our sandpit has had a face-lift as well! The final part of our turf has been laid and this area will be open for students to play in the coming days. Vandalism on School Grounds Recently we have had a number of incidents in which our school grounds have been accessed of an evening and weekend a group of local children. This has resulted in damage to our covered walkways and gymnasium roof. I would encourage any local parents, who witness inappropriate behaviour on our grounds to call 000 or the

Class Captains A big congratulations to our Term 2 Class Captains for 2019! Our end of term assembly encapsulates many smiling faces as our captains are presented with their new badges. The choosing of these captains is enhanced this year by each classroom having allocated time to talk about who they would like to see as their Class Captain. This joint decision between our teachers and students is part of our work this year on student agency and I look forward to working with this group from Week 3.

ANZAC Day Congratulations to the students in the senior choir, who participated in the Caroline Springs Dawn Service.

Green Team News Welcome back to Term 2! Just a reminder that Nude Food Day will continue to be held EVERY Wednesday at KCPS. The Green Team Captains will be collecting data on the number of student participants in their class each week. Classes with the most participation throughout the term will be announced during the end of term 2 assembly! NUDE FOOD day is a chance for our students to realise what they can do for their health and the health of the planet. For additional information, please visit our school website under the Sustainability Project tab. Remember you don’t just have to bring Nude food in on Wednesdays! A wrapper-free lunch everyday will greatly reduce the amount of rubbish in our environment. Green Team Captains Congratulations to the students who have been awarded the Green Team captains of their class! It is a very important and rewarding role in our school community. They will be working closely with the Environment Captains with responsibilities such as collecting Nude Food data, emptying the compost and co-mingle bins and attending Sustainability Club. Vermicomposting – Worm farming initiative We are very excited to announce that composting will commence Week 2 of Term 2. The Environment Captains will be organising composting incursions run by our Grade 6 cohort to for rest of the school. The Environment Captains have also featured on KCPS TV in an episode explaining to all year levels how the composting will work. Each year level will be informed when they will be responsible for feeding our friendly worm’s food scraps from our snacks and lunches to keep them happy and full! The worm juice will be collected to fertilize our growing vegetable garden. Term Two Waste Incursion Green Team students will participate in a Waste Incursion in Week Two, an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the initiatives within our school and the actions they can take. We encourage ALL STUDENTS to take action and invite them to share their experience with their teachers and peers

Gardening club Check out the fantastic produce that was grown by our gardening club last term! We look forward to seeing more wonderful produce being planted and grown throughout Term 2. Make sure you continue to look out for the produce stalls where you are able to buy some of our school grown delicious produce!

Rubbish in the yard Students have been reminded to please ensure they are throwing out rubbish into the appropriate bins when out in the yard and in the classroom. This will help make sure our school continues to be a clean and environmentally friendly community Things to look out for during Term 2:

- Worm Juice Labeling Competition
