What does the word “IP” mean in Lighting Industry?

It stands for “INGRESS PROTECTION”, which was draught by IEC（ INTERNATIONAL

ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION ） . An IP number is used to classify the environmental protection of solid objects and liquids around electronic equipment.

The IP number is made of two numbers, the first referring to the protection against solid

objects and the second against liquids. The higher the number, the better the protection.

We often see the different IP ratings in LED strip lights, such as IP00, IP65, IP66, IP67

and IP68.

In the above picture, it is a 3528 LED strip light without any cover on the LED tape. So it

is obviously that the IP rating is IP00. The “00” means No protection against both solid

objects and liquids.
