All Data is indicative only and must not be seen as a substitute for the full specification from which it is drawn. In particular, the mechanical property requirements vary widely with product form and product dimensions.
For more complete details please refer to the relevant specification – The BS EN Specifications for Stainless Steel are listed on a separate Datasheet.
Stainless Steel Grade 304 / 1.4301 Stainless steel types1.4301 and 1.4307 are also known as grades 304 and 304L respectively. Type 304 is the most versatile and widely used stainless steel. It is still sometimes referred to by its old name 18/8 which is derived from the nominal composition of type 304 being 18% chromium and 8% nickel.
Type 304 stainless steel is an austenitic grade that can be severely deep drawn. This property has resulted in 304 being the dominant grade used in applications like sinks and saucepans.
Type 304L is the low carbon version of 304. It is used in heavy gauge components for improved weldability. Some products such as plate and pipe may be available as “dual certified” material that meets the criteria for both 304 and 304L.
304H, a high carbon content variant, is also available for use at high temperatures.
Property data given in this document is typical for flat rolled products covered by ASTM A240/A240M. ASTM, EN or other standards may cover products sold by Aalco. It is reasonable to expect specifications in these standards to be similar but not necessarily identical to those given in this datasheet.
Applications 304 stainless steel is typically used in:
Sinks and splashbacks Saucepans Cutlery and flatware Architectural panelling Sanitaryware and troughs Tubing Brewery, dairy, food and pharmaceutical
production equipment Springs, nuts, bolts and screws

All Data is indicative only and must not be seen as a substitute for the full specification from which it is drawn. In particular, the mechanical property requirements vary widely with product form and product dimensions.
For more complete details please refer to the relevant specification – The BS EN Specifications for Stainless Steel are listed on a separate Datasheet.
Alloy Designations Stainless steel 304 also corresponds to the following standard designations and specifications:

1.4301 S30400 304S15 304S16 304S31
58E 304
1.4306 S30403 304S11 - 304L
1.4307 - 304S11 - 304L
1.4311 - 304S11 - 304L
1.4948 S30409 304S51 - 304H Corrosion Resistance 304 has excellent corrosion resistance in a wide variety of environments and when in contact with different corrosive media. Pitting and crevice corrosion can occur in environments containing chlorides. Stress corrosion cracking can occur at temperatures over 60°C.
Heat Resistance 304 has good resistance to oxidation in intermittent service up to 870°C and in continuous service to 925°C. However, continuous use at 425-860°C is not recommended if corrosion resistance in water is required. In this instance 304L is recommended due to its resistance to carbide precipitation.
Where high strength is required at temperatures above 500°C and up to 800°C, grade 304H is recommended. This material will retain aqueous corrosion resistance.
Fabrication Fabrication of all stainless steels should be done only with tools dedicated to stainless steel materials. Tooling and work surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned before use. These precautions are necessary to avoid cross contamination of stainless steel by easily corroded metals that may discolour the surface of the fabricated product.
Cold Working 304 stainless steel readily work hardens. Fabrication methods involving cold working may require an intermediate annealing stage to alleviate work hardening and avoid tearing or cracking. At the completion of fabrication a full annealing operation should be employed to reduce internal stresses and optimise corrosion resistance.
Hot Working Fabrication methods, like forging, that involve hot working should occur after uniform heating to 1149-1260°C. The fabricated components should then be rapidly cooled to ensure maximum corrosion resistance.
Heat Treatment 304 stainless steel cannot be hardened by heat treatment.
Solution treatment or annealing can be done by rapid cooling after heating to 1010-1120°C.
Machinability 304 has good machinability. Machining can be enhanced by using the following rules:
Cutting edges must be kept sharp. Dull
edges cause excess work hardening. Cuts should be light but deep enough to
prevent work hardening by riding on the surface of the material.
Chip breakers should be employed to assist in ensuring swarf remains clear of the work
Low thermal conductivity of austenitic alloys results in heat concentrating at the cutting edges. This means coolants and lubricants are necessary and must be used in large quantities.

Welding Fusion welding performance for type 304 stainless steel is excellent both with and without fillers. Recommended filler rods and electrodes for stainless steel 304 is grade 308 stainless steel. For 304L the recommended filler is 308L. Heavy welded sections may require post-weld annealing. This step is not required for 304L. Grade 321 may be used if post-weld heat treatment is not possible.
Supplied Forms 304 is typically supplied by Aalco in a range of finishes in the following forms:

DOW CORNING 786
M ildew Resistant Silicone Sealant
One-part silicone sealant
APPLICATIONS
DOW CORNING 786 is a one part, flexible; fast curing
silicone rubber sealant specifically designed for the sealing
of refrigeration units and areas where contact with food is
likely.
TYPICAL PROPERTIES
The following values are not intended for use in preparing
specifications:
Cure Type : Acetoxy
Working Time : 5-10 minutes
Slump : Nil
Tack Free Time : 1 hour
Cure Time for 2.5mm depth : 24 hours
Joint Movement Capability : +/-25%
Recovery : 100%
Staining : None
Hardness (Shore A) : 25
Service Temperature Range : -50C to +150C
Application Temperature
Range : 5 C to 40C
JOINT DESIGN
When designing joints using DOW CORNING 786, the
minimum joint width should be 6mm. For joints between
6mm-12mm wide, a seal depth of 6mm is required. For
joints above 12mm wide, a width to depth ratio of 2:1
should be used. In situations where fillet joints are needed,
a minimum of 6mm sealant bite to each substrate is
recommended.
HOW TO USE
Surface Preparation
Ensure that surfaces to be sealed are clean, dry,
sound and grease free. Clean with DOW
CORNING R40 Universal Cleaner or
methylated spirits depending on the substrates
to be sealed, and dry thoroughly with a clean,
lint-free cloth before application of sealant.
Note: When using any solvent, always provide
adequate ventilation. Avoid heat, sparks and
open flames. Use solvent resistant gloves.
Observe and follow all precautions listed on
solvent container label. It is recommended that
DOW CORNING 786 is not applied to surfaces
that are below 5 C as it is impossible to
guarantee a dry surface at this temperature.
Masking
Areas adjacent to the joints should be masked
with tape to prevent contamination of the
substrates and to ensure a neat sealant line.
Masking tape should be removed immediately
after tooling.
Priming
Primer is not required on most common non-
porous substrates including vitreous enamel,
ceramics, porcelain, glazed tiles, etc. For some
metals and plastics priming is required. For
specific advice, please refer to the Dow
Corning Primer Guide or contact Geocel for
technical assistance.
Back-Up Materials
Where back-up material is required closed cell
polyethylene backer rod is recommended. Low
tack polyethylene tape should be used in joints
too shallow to allow the use of backer rod.
Finishing
The joint should be tooled within 5 minutes of
application to ensure good contact between the
sealant and the substrate. Tooling of the sealant
also gives a smooth, professional finish.
Clean-Up
Excess sealant may be cleaned off tools and
non-porous surfaces whilst in an uncured state
using DOW CORNING R40 Universal Cleaner.
Cured sealant may be removed with the aid of
DOW CORNING Silicone Sealant Remover,
abrasion or other mechanical means. Care
should be taken not to damage plastic surfaces.
USEABLE LIFE AND STORAGE
12 months from date of production when stored
in cool, dry conditions below 23C.
COLOUR RANGE & PACKAGING
DOW CORNING 786 Silicone Sealant is
available in white and clear and is supplied in
310ml cartridges, packed in boxes of 12.
HANDLING PRECAUTIONS
Product safety information required for safe use
is not included. Before handling, read product
and safety data sheets and container labels for
safe use, physical and health hazard
information. You can obtain a copy from your
local Dow Corning sales representative or
distributor.
LIMITATIONS
DOW CORNING 786 Silicone Sealant should
not be applied to porous surfaces such as stone
or concrete, or to easily corroded metals such as
lead or copper. DOW CORNING 786 should
not be used against surfaces that bleed oils,
plasticisers or solvents. Contact Geocel’s
Technical Services Department for further
advice on specific applications.

INSTALLATION
• In order to operate correctly all doors should be installed in accordance
with our installation instructions.
• Please ensure the doors are carefully protected after they have been
fitted, especially during the construction program.
• Installation instructions should be retained and handed over to Building
Maintenance Staff for future reference.
MAINTENANCE
• In order to maintain a smooth working operation and maximum
longevity we recommend that the items listed below are carried out
every 8 – 10 weeks.
• Should you have any queries during the installation process, please do
not hesitate to contact Puracore, who will be more than willing to

DOOR MAINTENANCE MANUAL
DOOR FURNITURE
Hinges
• Hinges should be inspected periodically for wear that may inhibit the
free movement of the door and also cause the door to drop.
• All screws should be checked for tightness and loose screws should be
tightened.
• Stainless steel hinges on personnel doors should be lubricated with
grease.
• Fermod hinges on insulated doors have nylon bearings, which do not
need lubrication.
Door Closers
• Door closers should be inspected periodically for oil leakage, tightness
of fixings and correct operation.
• Light oil lubricant should be applied to exposed pivot points.
• For smooth operation, ensure the arm of the door closer points
towards the hinges at a 45º angle (the arm should not be perpendicular
to the closer/door frame).
• If the door does not close firmly into the frame, check the operation of
the lock and hinges before adjusting the closer.
• The speed of operation can be altered by adjusting the screws at the
side of the closer.
Locks, Latches & Cylinders
• The correct operation of a lock or latch, assuming correct fitting,
may be affected by movement of the door or frame, or wear on
hinges.
• The usual result is the inability of the latch and deadbolts to easily
engage the striking plate/keep, requiring an adjustment to their
position on the frame.
• The mortice should be periodically checked to ensure that no debris
has entered the lock-case.
• Do not apply grease to the internal lock mechanism, as this will
attract dust.
• Cylinders should be maintained with a periodic application of
powdered graphite into the keyway.
• Do not lubricate cylinders with oil as this will attract dust and affect
their smooth operation.
Handles
• All screw fixings on lever/pull handles should be periodically
checked for tightness and adjusted if loose.
DOOR FINISHES
• All powder coated finishes should be cleaned with a soft cloth and
household furniture polish. Under no circumstances must industrial
solvents be used.
• Nickel & chrome finishes should be dusted regularly and washed
periodically with weak detergent solutions.
• Stainless steel is to be dusted regularly and occasionally washed
with warm water. Avoid abrasive materials.
• Polyethylene is a non-porous material and the smooth surface will
not attract dust. Wipe with a damp cloth to restore to its original
condition.
• Foodsafe laminate (all colours) may be washed down with water
from a hose or bucket up to a temperature of 60ºC. Stubborn oil or
grease stains can normally be removed with white spirit on a soft
cloth followed immediately by a fresh water rinse.
DOOR SURROUND
• The T5-treated anodised aluminium door surround should be
regularly wiped down with a light oil lubricant, especially in cases
where the door is in contact with aggressive chemicals.

We’ve modified our standard Puracore panel to accept the 6mm Trespa face in order to meet the specification. We manufactured approximately 550m2 panels to meet the exacting tolerances our client required.

The addition of the Trespa face meant a change to our standard process. The Trespa sheet also added increased weight to the panel, so extra care was needed when handling. The addition of extra presses through our plant meant quality checks were paramount. The Trespa was applied in two pieces to panels over 3m these needed a very specific gap between them to ensure consistency on site.Despite the above challenges, the product was delivered on time, on specification to our delighted Client.
