EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD - APRIL 16, 2017
On behalf of Fr. Jeff, Fr. Komonchak, Fr. Jim, Deacon Jim, Deacon Kareem, and the parish staff, I am very happy to extend our prayers and good wishes to everyone – parishioners and visitors alike – for a blessed and grace-filled East-er! As our celebration of these fifty days of Easter begins, I’d like to share news of upcoming events: As previously announced, our parish is hosting a mission called Revive for the parishes in our cluster (St. Colum-
ba, Chester; St. Joseph, Florida; and St. Stephen, Warwick). This will take place over the course of three evenings (Monday, June 5 through Wednesday, June 7).
Burke Catholic High School is hosting an open house on Thursday, April 27 from 4:30 to 6:30pm. For more in-formation, please visit www.burkecatholic.com.
First Eucharist will be celebrated on Saturday, May 6 at 10:00am and 1:00pm, and on Saturday, May 13 at 10:00am.
We will be joining many of our local churches in an evening service on Thursday, May 4, in observance of the Na-tional Day of Prayer. Details are forthcoming.
The students of St. John School will be presenting The Little Mermaid in evening performances on Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13. For more information, please visit www.saintjohngoshen.org.
The school’s annual spring fundraiser, “Roll Into Spring,” will take place the following Saturday, May 20. This is a good opportunity to remind everyone of the ways in which you can keep in touch with us, as well as receive timely updates about parish ministries, initiatives and events. Both the parish and St. John School have up-to-date, easy-to-navigate websites: www.sjegoshen.org (the parish)
and www.saintjohngoshen.org (the school). Flocknote is a simple and effective way to receive email or text reminders or updates from us. Registration is sim-
ple; just visit www.flocknote.com/SJEGoshen, and you’ll be guided through the process. There are Facebook pages for the parish, the school, the early childhood center, and the high school youth group.
+ + + One of the consultative bodies of the parish is the parish council, a group of parishioners who advise the pastor on mat-ters that affect the life of the entire parish. Four spots will be open this year; each will serve a three-year term, begin-ning in September. Any parishioner age 18 or over may submit his/her name to be considered; all of the names will be put into a bowl, we’ll ask the Holy Spirit for guidance, and then names will be selected at Mass on Pentecost Sun-day, June 4. If interested, please drop me a note or call the parish office.
+ + + Finally, I am happy to announce a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in February 2018. The group will include the New York Archdiocesan Festival Chorale, under the leadership of Dr. Jennifer Pascual, the director of music at St. Pat-rick’s Cathedral; I’ll be going as the chaplain. As of this writing, we’ll be departing on Thursday, February 15 and re-turning on Monday, February 26. Once details are finalized, I’ll share that information for any who might be interest-ed in coming. Faithfully your priest, Fr. George Hafemann
