Almost everybody’s done it... felt sleepy

while driving.

Chances of dying in

a fatigue-related collision are

much higher than you think.

• Your eyes shut or lose focus by themselves

• You keep nodding off

• You can’t stop yawning

• Your thoughts are persistently wandering

• You don’t remember where those last few kilometers went

• You drift between lanes, tailgate, or miss traffic signs

• You keep having to steer the car back into the lane

• You have drifted off the road and hit the shoulder

falling asleep at the wheel!

“I’ll just have a coffee before I drive. That’ll stop the drowsiness.” - NO IT WON’T!

“I can tell when I’m going to sleep.” - NOT!

“I can’t take naps.” - TRY IT!

“Young people need less sleep.” - DREAM ON!

• Get the sleep you need

• Share the driving with a friend

• Plan rest stops before you leave

• Use cruise sparingly

• Don’t Drink and Drive

• Don’t take ‘drugs’ and drive - some over-the-counter and prescription drugs make you sleepy

• Avoid fatty, high carbohydrate foods

Sure, these techniques can help you prevent driving tired, but once you are fatigued, the only surefire remedy is sleep.

• Have a passenger

take over while you

go to sleep in the

back seat

• Whenever you feel

tired, always pull

over and rest at a

safe, well-lit area
