“A Day at the Beach”

A Day at the Beach is a concept book. It’s is an ideal tool to supplement and reinforce

concepts associated with experiencing a visit to the beach. The pictures and text should

be a starting point to begin a dialogue with children. This book may foster children to

interpret pictures, helping to connect meaning of text through illustrations. The repetition

of text creates familiarity for the child. Adults may utilize this to exchange a ritualized

dialogue to engage children through a scaffolding dialogue to gain knowledge and

concepts unique to A Day at the Beach.

This book has been adapted for Hearing Impaired children. Each vocabulary word is

illustrated by a picture and the ASL sign. To view the sign/finger spell, just click on the

image. The pictures and the ASL signs and fingerspells provide a visual for the students

who are learning to read and sign the words.
