A Day in The Life Of An Upper East Siderby Joe Saperstein

New York City is a great place. So many people from all over the world come to New York City and think it is so big. They think that it is a tourist site and not a place to live. They are partially right. New York City has the biggest population of any city in America. However, even though New York City is so big, you can still find a real sense of community and a “small town” feel in some neighborhoods. A neighborhood that really expresses the idea of a community feeling is The Upper East Side. The Upper East Side is a neighborhood in Manhattan. It is located between 59th street to 96th street and The East River to Central Park. As mentioned before, The Upper East Side is pretty big, but I will be referring to my neighborhood, which is within the neighborhood of The Upper East Side.

Firstly, The Upper East Side has a community feeling because so many people know each other. For example, my doctor is a member of my temple and is a parent at the elementary school I go to. Furthermore, half of my Hebrew school class goes to my school and the cantor at my temple is a parent at my school. This shows that there are so many overlaps between different parts of my life.

Another reason The Upper East Side is similar to a small town is because almost all of my daily activities is in a five to ten block radius from my home. This shows that everything you need is really close by. Lastly, The Upper East Side is like a small town because my mom and I walked five blocks and we literally bumped into six people that we know. This shows how almost everybody is friendly with everyone, which signifies a small town feel.  All in all, even in a big city, you can still find neighborhoods with a real sense of community.

There is nothing like having two frozen yogurt places on the same block. Both of them are very popular.
