For the past two years, AustralianBIoinformatics.net, the main online presence of the Australian Bioinformatics Network, has been gathering and advertising information about bioinformatics education and training events in Australia. While not comprehensive, this is probably the best snapshot we’ve got, and in this short presentation we will see what this data tells us about learning, education and training. Presented at InCoB 2014 special session on Bioinformatics Education and Training: http://incob2014.org

WhySince mid-2012, AustralianBioinformatics.net has been gathering and advertising information about bioinformatics education and training events in Australia.

While not comprehensive, this is probably the best snapshot we’ve got

Let’s see what this data tells us…

What did the data say to me?

Additional/improved data could be readily gathered• Improve tagging of topics• Add in estimates of attendance• Solicit information about other events

What events should be in scope?• My guess? events open to anyone• Not covering tertiary courses or MOOCs

Training coverage is uneven• Perth? Hobart? Darwin?
