In-Shoe Analysis with F-Scan®

F-Scan System

Captures dynamic in-shoe pressure information revealing the interaction the foot & footwear. Detects, displays, & records

plantar pressures & forces without interfering with foot function & gait patterns.

How Does it Work?

• A non-invasive test is performed simply by trimming the ultra-thin sensor to the shoe size of the patient and inserting the sensor into the shoe.

• The patient then starts walking and plantar pressure is displayed and recorded in real-time.

F-Scan Wireless & Datalogger

F-Scan Wireless & Datalogger options allow the wearer complete freedom of movement, allowing for more thorough

evaluation of the subject and the treatment

How Does it Work?

Wireless – Transmit data to your PC in real-time

Datalogger – Record and store data in the field

Use both systems with the same hardware!

Manage Treatment From Inside the Shoe• Increase orthotic/footwear performance

• Reduce need for follow-up and orthotic adjustments = reduced cost

• Increase patient satisfaction = referrals

• Help plan surgical procedures

• Reduce healing time for ulcers/pressure sores

• Early detection of high pressure areas leading to ulcerations.

In-Shoe Applications

• Screen for disorders secondary to diabetes & other neuropathic disorders

• Observe gait abnormalities• Regulate weight bearing after surgery• Monitor degenerative foot disorders• Assess high pressures due to ray hypomobility• Immediate determination of orthotic efficiency• Pre- and post-surgical evaluations• Identify areas of potential ulceration

Gait Analysis During Sports

Sports applications such as football, hockey, rollerblading, tennis, soccer, basketball, baseball, golf, skiing, & much more…

Sports Applications

• Enhance Technique & Performance• Improve Weight Transfer & Timing• Optimize Stance & Positioning• Improve Power & Accuracy• Biomechanical Evaluation• Footwear Evaluation• Retrain Technique after Injury• Benchmark and Fine-Tune Technique

Assess Orthotic Efficiency

Before Orthoses With Test Orthoses With Prescribed Orthoses

Data collected from a patient complaining of cramping and pain in legs and feet was evaluated and used to determine if the desired

treatment outcome was met.

Barefoot Analysis

• MatScan®

• HR (High Resolution) MatTM VersaTek

• WalkwayTM

MatScan

Low profile mat to capture barefoot pressures/forces

500 Hz scan rate with VersaTek electronics

Screening Tool

• Screen patients on the basis of foot pressures, function and postural related problems.

• Quickly identify foot pressures, foot function and some gait parameters.

• Monitor the progress / efficiency of foot function during rehabilitation or muscle training.

• Recommend orthotic or footwear in a retail setting.

Posture Analysis & Chiropractic Manipulation

HR Mat

The high resolution of the HR Mat sensor is most beneficial in detecting pressure profile discrepancies in children as well as

patients with deformed feet.

Scan speeds of up to 250 Hz.

Sensor Resolution

4 sensels/cm2 (25 sensels/in2) Resolution

Walkway

Captures multiple sequential foot strikes of humans and animals for analysis of foot function and gait.

Modular Walkway Design

• Choose your system configuration by sensing area and sensor resolution.

• Designs are available up to 1951 mm x 447mm (76.8 in x 17.6 in) with 33,408 sensing elements

MatScan & HR Mat vs. Walkway

• MatScan & HR Mat– Balance– Single Step Screening– PT Training Tool (Lower Limb Exercises)

• Walkway – All of the above plus…– Capture Multiple Foot Strikes– Report Velocity

Barefoot Applications

• Identify asymmetries during stance phase or while standing

• Perform in-depth analysis of foot function or problem by isolating the heel, midfoot, and forefoot during stance phase

• Review dynamic weight transfer and local pressure concentrations

• Monitor improvements in balance & sway, strength & weight bearing

Animal Applications with Walkway

• Synchronize pressure data with video images

• Evaluate pre- and post-intervention changes

• Observe and quantify gait abnormalities

• Weight bearing and paw pressure analysis

• Quantify subjective data

New Calibration Routines

Calibration is one of the key factors in obtaining accurate pressure measurements.

New calibration routines are available in both Clinical and Research software (version 6.0 or later) for the F-Scan, MatScan, and HR Mat systems.

New Calibration Routines

Step Calibration

Step calibration reduces trial variability and should be used with subjects that can balance on one foot since it requires calibration for each foot

Recommended for research applications

New Calibration Routines

Walk Calibration

Walk calibration reduces trial variability and is an automatic, fast technique which increases the number of subjects that can be seen in an hour, or increases the number of trials that can be performed

Recommended for clinical applications where subjects are walking at a normal pace

How Does a Tekscan System Work?

Each system uses Tekscan's patented high-resolution, thin-film tactile pressure/force sensors that produce the most accurate and reliable pressure and force readings available.

Our enabling electronics captures the data and our user-friendly software shows real-time 3-D and 2-D color displays providing optimal assessment and evaluation.

Video SynchronizationTM

Synchronize and play back both video and pressure data simultaneously. Enhance your diagnosis, treatment, and

documentation!

Quality information creates an easy gait

exam!

Research Software

Added capabilities for meeting research desires and needs, including additional calibration (bladder & multi-point), data

processing, and analysis.

Objects, like polygons and blobs, allow for custom-shaped boxes to be displayed

ASCII saving capabilities for further data

processing and analysis

Center of Mass Analysis (CoM’nalysis)

Calculates and displays parameters for comparisons associated with the behavior and

performance of the body’s center of mass.

Timing Analysis Module (TAMTM)

Generates temporal data on foot function &

gait kinematics via a pressure recording.

TAM also provides you with an array of timing parameters during foot contact, determines the

phases of gait, and illustrates right and left

asymmetry.

Sway Analysis Module (SAMTM)

• SAM is the ideal tool for analyzing balance and sway and detects movement that would otherwise be unseen by the naked eye.

• Assess and document the amount of sway and weight bearing distribution pattern a patient has before treatment and subsequently examine sway again post – treatment

Equilibration/Calibration Device

An Equilibration/Calibration device applies a uniform pressure to the active area of the sensor to allow Tekscan software to compensate for variation in the output of individual sensing elements. The device performs two functions:

Model VB5A for CONFORMat Sensor 5330

Equilibration -  electronically equalizes all sensing points ensuring a uniform and accurate output

Calibration - establishes an accurate value for each sensing point the relative value of the output

Add-On Sensors

• Tekscan’s systems were designed for various sensors to be used with one set of electronics. If you have an F-Scan VersaTek system, you can also capture prosthetic, barefoot, and seat data using your existing electronics.

Note: Compatibility is dependent on system electronics.
