*ACE complies with the BSA’s Safety Afloat Policy guidelines related to SUP.

Overview of ACE’s BSA SUP Award curriculum:

1. Review of safelty considerations for SUP in varying environments.

2. Review of life jackets and the proper fit.

3. Review of SUP leashes and how to use.

4. Review and familiarization of SUP equipment.

5. Practice SUP techniques including paddling techniques and the passive self-rescue technique.

6. Paddlers with ACE will paddle the equivalent of the BSA SUP Award requirements while not exceeding anything less than:

a. A 25 yard straight line paddle with a one board length stop

b. Paddling in a figure-8

c. Moving left and right 10 feet

*Troops will need to seek the BSA Swimmer’s Test on their own in order to fulfill the

requirements for the SUP award. It is also possible to arrange for the test to be taken

at ACE. Inquire with your ACE reservationist for more details.

*The BSA SUP award may be booked within ACE’s half day trip format. Exceptions may be

necesary due to the number of participants and special request. ACE reserves the right to

determine the location any SUP Award trip will be conducted. Location request cannot be

guaranteed do to environmental and logistical restrictions and limitations.
