This is an account of my four days on the Holy Mountain of Athos, a self governing and independent monistic peninsular in north eastern Greece. Founded in 963 by a decree from the Roman Emperor who intended to retire as a monk there, accessible only by land and forbidden to woman, tradition has stayed relatively unchanged for 1000 years.
