Advertising strategiesConnor Wake

Before and after

The before and after strategy is what is used mainly in exercise adverts. It is used by showing a picture of somebody who is overweight then a picture of the same person after they have used the product making them skinnier and showing that the product works. This is usually an over exaggeration to get people to buy the product.

Advice

The advice strategy is used to help somebody and to help them through a product. An example of this is smoking or drinking. There is adverts such as stoptober what is giving advice to help towards stopping drinking.

Empathy

This is used to make the viewer upset and also to make them donate to save lines. This is usually used by a non-profitable organisation such as a charity. This is used in adverts such as the charities such as wateraid to make the public donate £2 a month so people can have clean water and this saves lives.

Testimonial

This strategy uses famous people to advertise things to make people who look up to them to buy that item they have got. An example of this is if a footballer such as Jordan Henderson wore a new pair of nike boots then kids who look up to him would go out and buy them boots to be like him.

Demonstration

This way shows only the things that products can do and aims to exploit them. Examples of this is if a car has good stability a advert would exploit this to show how good it is.

Competitive or Comparison

This is used to show the difference between 2 items. This is used to knock out competition and is used to compare differences to make one item look better than the other items so people buy them products instead. It is used to sell things such as laptops.

Negative and positive strategy

This is used to turn negative space into something that can be used in an advert. For example the vw slogan for a car was think small so they had a picture of a small car instead of having it bigger what took out the equation of bigger is better. This is used with many products with a wide range but i would usually say it is to do more with cars.
