Applied Improvisation Appreciative Inquiry

Improvisation is great training for appreciative inquiry. Appreciative Inquiry is a beautiful frame for applied improvisation.

Applied Improvisation: the use of improvisation off stage, to raise skills like adaptiveness deep listening awareness generative communication powers Seeing possibilities

Be confident that the story is already there. In A.I.: that results will arise anyway. Just Be. Be aware.

ACCEPT ENJOY EMBRACE the unexpected the stuff others bring in “The word stranger doesn't make any sense to me anymore” (audience member during keynote)

RESPONDING

instead of

REACTING

to go to

CREATING

It's not about bringing things in balance. It's about the ACT of balancING Out of your comfort zone the magic happens.

Pushing the swing: enhance the movement by going a little bit along before going to the next stage. Taking things “in” before the next expression.

Think inside the box. Be aware of what is there. “Take the small next step everyone can say yes to.” Great jumps outside the box happens when you know what's IN the box.

Choosing doesn't always have to come from comparison, judgement, the rational. Learn to choose from the heart. Learn sometimes to decide without choosing first with your head. “Your feet are smarter” Stephen Sim

You can define two kinds of impro: impro coming from ideas (quickly bouncing against each other). or impro coming from collaboration Where-in the story unfolds itself (referring to Randy Dixon)

KNOW YOUR BLOCKERS !!

Wanna be smart

Wanna look good

Is this logic enough?

have to be prepared

It isn't visual enough

Have to be quick

“You should learn how to cut the umbilical cord between yourself and YOUR ideas.” (who said this, loved it!) “From the stories, comes the

positive energy.” (and vice versa)

If you're listening, you're already improvising.
