AIRBORNE SATELLITE COMMUNICATION
SYSTEM FACTSHEET1-Channel System
Standard Data Rates (SDR) for helicopters
Since the needs of operators are individual, we provide customized solutions to fulfi ll specifi c re-quirements. With the selection of the adequate Thuraya Aero components, we provide a system that perfectly meets your demands. Thuraya Aero supports your operational excellence, wherever your mission takes you!
The 1-Channel System - FL variant is our solution for rotary wing aircraft missions, which require standard data rates up to 444 kbps. The Thuraya aeronautical satellite system consists of:
Thuraya Aero is the airborne beyond line of sight (BLOS) communication solution that enables in-fl ight connectivity like internet access, voice-calls, high-speed data applications such as video and audio conferencing, access to e-mail, large fi le transfer (e.g. surveillance videos), Voice over IP and many more.
smp aviation has been chosen as general contrac-tor and exclusive partner by Thuraya to develop and launch its innovative Thuraya Aero products. With negligible installation expenses and easy conversion of similar L-band systems as well as cost effi cient pricing for transmission rates, Thuraya Aero is set to offer an attractive alternative to anything currently available on the market.

The Satellite Data Unit (TH-SDU-FL) is designed to be mounted inside the aircraft. For small ISR fi xed wing platforms and all rotary platforms the fl ange mount SDU perfectly meets the requirements and qualifi -cation specifi cations. The TH-SDU-FL uses the SRT Wireless base concept of the VIPturbo software de-fi ned radio system. The VIPturbo module is adapted to the most stringent qualifi cation requirements for airborne communication equipment for both fi xed wing and rotary wing aircraft.
The High Power / Low Noise Amplifi er (TH-HLD-7260) interconnects the SDU with the Thuraya Aero antenna system and is packed into a single, compact component. For the transmit direction, the HLD operates as a High Power Amplifi er in order to provide the necessary power level to the Thuraya satellite. In receive direction the HLD operates as a very sensitive Low Noise Amplifi er in order to ampli-fy the receive signal from the high gain antenna. It forms part of a Thuraya Aero single channel system and reduces overall box-count, system weight and complexity.

The High Gain Antenna (TH-HGA-6500) is a rugge-dized mechanically steered Thuraya Aero Antenna. It is based in a dual coil system. Derived from the successful TH-HGA-6000, the TH-HGA-6500 is spe-cifi cally designed for external mount on helicopters and slower fl ying aircraft. The TH-HGA-6500 accepts steering commands directly from any ARINC 741 compatible system. This eliminates the need to install a separate Antenna Control Unit (ACU) or Beam Steering Unit (BSU) and improves empennage weight, distribution and installation simplicity.
