“all OBJECTS are P R
O S T H E S E S”
P R O S T H E S I STHE ABSTRACT FOR
The desire for perfection propels evolution headfirst into an idealized utopia. The flawed, the imperfect, the disabled, the incomplete, the asymmetrical, and the deficient are supplemented with prosthetic aug-mentation. Yet prostheses are seen as more than just manufacturing cyborgs. By acting as a physical me-morial to something lost, they are a marker of an absence (both metaphorical and literal.) Consumerism is the bridge. The consumption of objects, venerated as prostheses make up for deficiency.
All objects are prostheses; superfluous supplements that make up the whole.
