• 1865, passed by Congress on January 31, & ratified on December 6, 1865, the 13th Amendment abolished slavery in the United States and provides that… • "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude,
except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."

• June 22, 1944, signed by President FD Roosevelt• Subsequent editions - Montgomery Bill & Post 9/11 GI Bill
• Considered one of the most significant federal legislations (required a tie-breaking vote!)
• Since being passed, more than 124 million tax dollars have been paid to more than 22 million veterans & dependents
