Human Resource NewsHR is moving quickly into 2008 with lots of activity! I was very pleased that in January,we doubled the size of the HR Department. There are now two of us as Kelly Bolandjoined Human Resources as HR Assistant to help support this growing company. You’veprobably noticed we’ve been hiring new employees as AmQuip continues to be extremelybusy. It’s a wonderful challenge having high recruiting needs during this ‘dip’ in the mar-ket. We are in a strong position to be selective and hire great candidates by offeringsteady work along with competitive benefits that engage new employees from Day One.

In the first quarter of ’08, HR updated the PTO and Attendance Policies, added optionalSupplemental Life Insurance benefits, visited the AL, TN and OH sites to meet employeesand tour facilities, and recently selected an HR system that will improve recordkeepingfor the company and improve communications to our employees. This system will alsoprovide some direct internet access between you and our benefits carriers to provide real-time access to information. In addition to theses activities, we announced early in Marchthat we are changing our 401k Retirement Plan administrators and fund advisors. Therewill be meetings and communications over the next few months about the 401k SavingsPlan and what services are available to help you save and plan for retirement. Watch formore news on this project. - Rita Kopp

Building a Safety CultureHigh-performing organizations are led by managers who inspire their employees to set andreach their goals. Managers must lead as well as manage safety within their area of influence.Ultimately, the only acceptable goal for injuries is ZERO, however, you cannot magicallyexpect our organization to go from having injuries and incidents to ZERO. To get there, managers must work to build a shared vision of zero accidents as the company’s safety goal, and must develop a culture in which all employees are engaged to share and communicatethe path of shared learning toward that goal.

“Our cranes do not drive themselves, fix themselves, clean themselves or operate themselves. “Crane People” MUST do it and “Crane People” is what we are”!

Our future is dependent on our ability to lead safe execution of our daily tasks coupledwith our employee’s responsibility to follow the same safe execution and/or suggest otherequally successful alternatives to implement and follow.

Please remember….YOU have the keys to our car (our safety culture), drive the car success-fully and towards safety perfection….the never ending journey of continuous improvement.- Jeff Hammons
