Anchor : A Versatile and Efficient Framework for Resource

Management in the Cloud.

Project Phase I

Introduction

What is the domain of this project? What is cloud computing? What is the need for resource management? What are the main resources used in cloud

computing? How generally is the cloud works?

Anchor, a general resource management architecture that uses the stable matching framework to decouple policies from mechanisms when mapping virtual machines to physical servers.

Objective

To design an expressive, fair and efficient matching mechanism by providing an architecture which decouples policies from mechanisms for cloud resource management.

Problem Statement

Existing solutions fall short in requirement.

First they tightly couple policy with mechanisms.

Existing System

On cloud resource management develop solutions for specific scenarios and purposes, such as consolidation based on CPU usage energy consumption bandwidth multiplexing, and storage dependences.

Moreover these solutions are developed for the operator without considering the interest of clients.

Proposed System

A revised DA algorithm that is guaranteed to find a weekly stable matching for a given problem.

We then showcased the versatility of the preferences abstraction for wide spectrum of resource management policies for VM placement with simple API.

Literature survey

Studied an IEEE paper on “ANCHOR: A Versatile and Efficient Framework for resource management in cloud” Hong Xu, Student Member, IEEE, Baochun Li, Senior Member, IEEE Published on June 2013.

Studied a paper on “Study paper on Cloud computing Virtualization & Resource management” Presented by Telecom Engineering Center. By the author, R. Saji Kumar Director, J.M.Suri DDG, I Division,Telecom Engineering Center, Department of Telecommunications, New Delhi.

Read “The First International Workshop on Resource Management of Cloud Computing” held in 2013.

RESEARCH ARTICLE : An Approach for Effective Resource Management in Cloud Computing by Preeti Agrawal and Yogesh Rathore.

Hardware requirement

System : Pentium IV 2.4 GHz or Latest

Hard Disk : 40 GBFloppy Drive : 1.44 MbMonitor : 14’ Color MonitorMouse : Optical MouseRam : 512 MbKeyboard : 101 Keyboard.

Software requirement

Operating system : Windows XP Coding Language : Java (RMI, Swings, Awt, Networking) Mobile Coding : J2ME Wireless Toolkit : Sun WTK 2.5.1

Data Base : MS Access IDE : Eclipse (Galileo) Simulator : CloudSim 3.03

Conclusion

Anchor is a unifying fabric for resource management in the cloud, where policies are decoupled from the management mechanisms by the stable matching framework.

Then efficiency and scalability of Anchor are demonstrated using a prototype implementation and large scale trace-driven simulations.
