The competition proposes the design of a multifunctional complex for different types of use: hotel, shopping areas, offices and public areas. At the present, the buildings are partially demolished. Tower and buildings must mantain their existing features. Height, number of floors and number of buildings can not be changed. The EUReco! project aims to create an integration with the context without varying the architectonic character of EUR, which consists in rigid geometries and classical lines. Notwithstanding the unity of the original project of the area, the buildings result standalone and not connected, so the starting point of the project is the idea of making interactions among all the buildings by the use of public spaces situated at differet heigths. The project thus develops a three-dimensional public space, defined by a ground floor, large buffer spaces, roof gardens and urban allotments. Moving between public areas is allowed both on ground floor and on overhead passages.

A new church’s construction is an extraordinary event, which involves both the christian community and the territory. The name “Cinisi” comes from “Kinisia”, meaning “territory belonging to the church”. The new parish project is thus set up as a common ground for the community and the liturgical spaces, conceived through an horizontal stratification in continuity with the local mountains.Recalling the first tent made by the local fellowship, a large veil acts as roof of the nave.Outside, a large churchyard and gardens take advantage of Sicily’s mild climate.According to local building regulations, the entire complex has to be lower than 11 meters. The bell tower, usually the tallest element of a church, is thus placed near the area entrance: the detachment from the nave makes it a landmark despite the restrained height. The organic shapes, which follow a parametric definition, make suggestive light effects and shadows: the liturgicalspaces vibrate as natural illumination changesthrough the day.

The restoration project foresees a plan of re-functionalization capable to satisfy the real needs of the community, promotingthe output of wealth with benefits for the town and the territory and ensuring the identity safeguard of the monument.
The project choices are based on the results of analysis and surveys and on the re-use of the building in order to guarantee the building subsistence through the definition of function regarding landscape and natural factors, historical and architectural factors, considering past ties and the current needs.
The architectural 3D survey of the nave has been made possible by the experimentation of the latest photomodeling softwares.
