School Kits are the Lutheran World Relief
project for August and September. Now is the
time to shop for school supplies with all the
Back-to-School sales! More information will
follow, but these are the items you will need
for one kit:
4 – 70-sheet notebooks (wide or college
ruled). No loose leaf paper.
1 – ruler with inches and centimeters.
1 – pencil sharpener
1 – blunt end safety scissors
5 – unsharpened #2 pencils with
erasers (secure together with a rubber
band)
5 – black or blue ballpoint pens (no gel
ink) secured with a rubber band.
1 box – 16-24 crayons
1 – 2 ½” eraser SEWING AND HEALTH KITS CAN ALSO CONTINUE

Council Highlights -- July 16, 2014
The St. John's Congregation Council
approved a Benefaction Board donation at
their monthly meeting on July 16. The
Benefaction Fund will provide an initial gift of
$19,950 to the Lutheran Disaster Relief Fund
for recent Northeast Nebraska storm damage.
Pastor Justin updated the council on
Vacation Bible School, scheduled for the first
week in August. Tent leaders and donated
items are still needed for the week.
The Property Committee has spent
many hours completing the upgrade to the
basement. The Communication Work Group
reported to the council that they are
beginning work to improve communication
within St. John’s and to the community.

Dear Colleagues in Ministry,
Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE, is pleased
to offer a free workshop on Sat., August 16,
9-11:30 am. Pastor Neill Morgan, a minister in
the Presbyterian Church for thirty years, will
offer some perspectives on how lay Bible
study leaders can approach challenging texts.
This workshop is for anyone who is
interested, but may be best suited for those
who lead Bible study in any capacity in your
congregation (men’s group, women’s group,
small group, youth group, Christian
education/Sunday School).
