Reading: Workshop Model

There are three components in the Reading

Workshop Model:

1. Mini-Lesson: reading strategy or

skill for the lesson

2. Independent Reading Time: skill

practice independently or with

partner/group, or conferencing

with teacher

3. Closing: sharing and reflection

time

In 5th Grade, students will be taking a variety of assessments throughout the school year:

•RI (Reading Inventory)

–Fall, Winter Spring

•ITBS (Iowa Test of Basic Skills)

–Sept 13-19, 2018

•DRAs (Diagnostic Reading Assessment)

–Fall, Winter, Spring

•Milestones (End of the Year)

–April 2019

5th Grade Grading Policy

• Students will receive A,B,C,D, or F • A = 90-100 • B = 80-89 • C = 74–79 • D = 70-73 • F = below 70

• Remember to read the keys on the County Report Cards.

• Since 5th graders eat lunch early, we do not have snack time as part of our regular schedule.

• For special celebrations, treats may be brought in. • Please contact your child's teacher in advance if you are willing to bring in something.

• Snacks MUST be store bought with nutrition label.

• Reduced sugar and more healthy snacks are appreciated!

• Please make sure there are enough treats for the entire class.
