AppFlow Traffic Analyzer Who’s accessing application resources? Where are they coming from? What type of browsers and devices are they using? What are their usage patterns? How are the applications performing for those users? For example, how many customers are accessing the application using an iPhone? How is the customer user experience in terms of app availability and responsiveness? These are just some of the application performance and usage information that your organization needs. As applications become increasingly critical in connecting with customers and partners, improving operational efficiency and driving profits, how can you get end-to-end real-time business intelligence from your apps? The good news is that there is a solution.
AppFlow is a new method developed by Citrix which extends the IPFIX standard to deliver application-level flow information. By leveraging the analytical and reporting power of the SolarWinds AppFlow Analyzer Free Tool and AppFlow, you can gain visibility and deep insight into critical business applications whether they are traditional datacenter apps, mobile apps or apps hosted in the cloud. The SolarWinds AppFlow Traffic Analyzer enables you to capture AppFlow records generated from the Citrix NetScaler application delivery controller to convert those records into easy-to-interpret charts and tables and actionable business intelligence. Together the AppFlow Traffic Analyzer and Citrix NetScaler make it easy to gain insight into customer profiles and trends, optimize application and networking infrastructure and troubleshoot application issues and threats.
AppFlow Traffic Analyzer Highlights:• Quickly identify application response times that exceed SLAs, impacting overall
user experience and leading to loss of revenue or page views
• Determine whether changes in the environment (e.g. newly added support for IPv6 or 2048-bit SSL migration) have slowed down any application, and pinpoint the exact cause of performance degradation for quick remediation and restoration of enterprise SLAs
• Immediately identify aborted application customer transactions, so that problems can be fixed and customer support representatives can contact affected customers
• Automatically identify problematic sources of application requests that are negatively impacting the overall responsiveness of the application (e.g. determine if large file uploads or page downloads are impacting site performance), and take corrective action by routing problem requests to dedicated resources such that all other users are isolated and SLAs are maintained
• Quickly generate TopN reports, including top applications being requested, top application pages/resources, top sources of application demand, top browsers (including version) accessing each application to better understand how users are leveraging an enterprise’s online resources

AppFlow Traffic Analyzer Use CasesUse Case: End user application experienceWe receive complaints from users about slow application performance, but are not able to test this without
providing instrumentation on the end user’s workstation.
Solution:Using the SolarWinds AppFlow Analyzer Free Tool in conjunction with the Citrix NetScaler load balancer
you can see top URL by latency. If a specific user is experiencing poor performance, you will see a record
of the user’s client side round trip time and server side round trip time. You will quickly see whether it
is a problem on the user’s side or if multiple users are experiencing an issue due to a slow server. This
information is available on a per service level so you can compare performance from one service to another
service for the same application.
Use Case: Browser Information for application usersWe are considering dropping support for IE 6 and adding support for Google Chrome for our web applications.
We need to better understand how these browsers are being used by specific applications.
Solution:Using the SolarWinds AppFlow Analyzer Free Tool in conjunction with the Citrix NetScaler load balancer,
you can gain instant insight into what browsers your users are using. Simply click on the specific application,
and then click Clients. You will see a breakdown of each user agent, the number of requests for that agent,
and the percentage of requests per unique user agent.
Use Case: How well are my load balances actually balance traffic? You implemented a load balancer to improve performance and availability. How do you know how well the
traffic is being distributed across the various servers in your data center?
Solution:Using the SolarWinds AppFlow Analyzer Free Tool in conjunction with the Citrix NetScaler load balancer
you can quickly compare the services configured for an application side by side. You can see a graph with
how many requests each service is handling as well as raw data for total traffic (bytes and packets).
Use Case: Who is sending all of the traffic to my web application?
Solution:You could dig through piles of webserver log files to try to find IPs that show up repeatedly, or you can launch
the AppFlow Analyzer Free Tool and monitor the AppFlow data from your Citrix NetScaler and quickly see
who your top users are by number of requests, bytes, or packets.
Use Case: I want to know if the web applications are performing as expected. By looking at the status codes, you can quickly see the http status codes users are receiving to make sure
they aren’t receiving 404s.
Solution:Using the SolarWinds AppFlow Analyzer Free Tool in conjunction with the Citrix NetScaler load balancer,
you can receive information about all of the status codes that are currently being returned to clients.
