Main parts of a Spanish verbTHE INFINITIVE
• This is the basic, non-conjugated version of the verb.
• In English, it means “to do” something. Examples: to speak, to work, to pay
• The Spanish infinitive always ends in -R

• These are the last two letters of the verb Examples: hablar , trabajar , pagar
• Because the above verbs end in ar, that makes them -AR verbs

• Formula: the infinitive - the ending = the stem

-AR Verb Endings• When you talk about yourself, you use the ending -o.
• When you speak to a friend, you use the ending -as.
• When you talk about someone (or one thing), you use the ending -a.
• When you talk about yourself with someone else, you use the ending -amos.
• When you talk about two or more people (or things), you use the ending -an.
• When you speak to two or more people, you also use the ending -an.
Verb Conjugation• What is it?
• To conjugate means to put a verb in its correct person and number so that we know who is doing the action.
• When you conjugate any verb, you always begin with the stem.
Steps for Verb Conjugation1. Start with the infinitive
of the verb
2. Remove the -AR ending
3. Add the correct conjugated ending (depending on the subject)
Each verb in the present tense has three English meanings
