AQUAPONICS

A combination of conventional aquaculture and hydroponics.

it is viable method for Water conservation in the field of agriculture.

EXTERNAL INPUTS

WATER

Water is only added when there’s

water loss due to absorption and

transpiration from plants. The

water in an Aquaponics system is

re-circulated and reused in an

effective way.

FEED

Feeding the fish is important. We

can use fish pellets to feed. To cut

down chores viable alternatives such

as organic fish food like duckweed,

worms and black soldier fly larvae

and etc. can be used.

ELECTRICITY

The amount of power used depends

on the size of the Aquaponics

system and whether it requires grow

lights. It can be highly energy

efficient if the system uses

alternative energy source to run the

motor and glow light.

WORKING

FISH WASTE

Fish waste is carried by flowing

water thus breaking it down

physically and setting the stage

for bacterial action.

NITRIFICATION

Nitrifying bacteria nitrosomonas,

nitrosospira, nitrosococcus,

nitrosolobus converts ammonia to

nitrites and nitrobacteria, nitrospina,

nitrococcus subsequently converts

nitrites into nitrates.

IRRIGATION

This nutrient rich water is

used to irrigate and

fertilize the plant bed.

NITRATE ABSORPTION

Nitrates are absorbed by plants.

ADVANTAGE F OR AQUA CU LTU RIST

This water devoid of nutrients is

now clean for the fish to breed

and grow in comfort and the water

need not be changed.

POINTS TO NOTE

❖ Ammonium and nitrite in higher

concentrations are extremely toxic to fishes.

❖ Mechanical filters remove inorganic

sediments

❖ Bio filter contain and allow for bacterial

action.

UNIQUE SELLING

PROPOSITION

MEDICAL EXPOSURE

Aquaponic produce being

organic in nature remove our

exposure to toxic and harmful

chemicals. Thus, reducing

medical complications.

OPEN TO ALL

Minimum need of labor

is required by which every

citizen can cultivate crops.

CAPITAL BREAKEVEN

Capital investment break

even happens faster as

yields are high which

increases profits.

WATER CONSERVATION

Water usage is minimized. An

Aquaponic farm requires about

10% of what a regular farm would

use. It reduces water consumption

up to 90%.

FUEL AND TIME CONSERVATION

As production is very

near the consumer the

system conserves fuel and

time.

MULTI CROP SYSTEM

we can cultivate multiple

crops at the same time.

COMPACT

Aquaponic system is compact. By using

grow-lighting with the system, any space

can become a productive garden

including ecologically dead areas.

ERGONOMIC

Waist height aquaponic

gardening eliminates weeds,

back strain, and animal access

to your garden.

SCALABLE

An Aquaponic system is scalable.

They can fit most sizes and

budgets, from small countertop

herb systems to backyard gardens

to full-scale commercial farms.

GARDENING CHORE IS MINIMISED

Efficient water use, closed system

and Resilience decreases need for

traditional maintenance schedules.

We provide food for the fish and

they in turn create food for our

plants.

FOOD SECURITY

Aquaponics is being

looked at as a viable

solution to the increasing

global food demand.

POLLUTION CONTROL

❖ As Agrarian spaces are utilized effectively

without the chemical additives, land

pollution can be reversed.

❖ Using aquaponic system we can assure

that the surrounding land and water

ecosystems does not get polluted.

REDUCES HVAC EXPENSES

Aquaponic systems installed in

building with polycarbonate reduce

the amount of radiation getting into

the building, thereby decreasing the

energy expended on heating,

ventilation and air conditioning

(HVAC).

INCREASED YIELD

Aquaponics system increases

yield by up to 3 to 10 times.

ALTERNATIVE INCOME SOURCE

Aquaponics provides agrarian

based households an

alternative income source via

the fish.

PROTEIN

Aquaponics provides protein.

We get the protein from fish

which is not present in

traditional agricultural

practices.

LESS WORK

Aquaponics fish rearing is

less strenuous when

compared to commercial

aquaculture.

CRISIS AVOIDANCE:

❖Unavailability of Water

❖Unavailability of Land

❖ Inorganic / toxic food

❖Cost – medical and monetary

❖ Labor

❖ Logistics(transport)
