SOUTHERN LIVING AROUND THE SOUTHERN TABLE
Coming home to comforting meals and treasured memories By Rebecca Lang
For immediate release (New York, NY) – Quintessential Southern belle Rebecca Lang is proving
that Southern food involves much more than typical biscuits and fried chicken with her
comprehensive new cookbook, Southern Living Around the Southern Table (October 2,
2012; Oxmoor House; $29.95/Hardcover). A Georgia native, she draws on her deep Southern
roots to celebrate the essence of the Southern table: hospitality. From the comfort food of home,
to the generosity of Southern hosts, to the heirloom linens and china adorning every Southern
table, this book is truly a slice of Southern culture. Each page honors the timeless Southern
tradition of gathering around the table with family, friends, and unforgettable food.

Around the Southern Table delivers soul-satisfying recipes for every occasion, from breakfast
and brunch to sweet desserts. Rebecca’s twists on the Southern breakfast classics: Sweet Candied
Bacon is transformed into an indulgent brunch side with the addition dash of molasses and
brown sugar, and run-of-the-mill grits become glorious Puffy Grits soufflé when whipped egg
whites and Parmigiano-Reggiano are added.
Rebecca celebrates “Southern-style snacking” in “Little Bites, Sips & Jars,” which features
recipes for Southern classics with a little something added, Divine Pimiento Cheese with Vidalia
onion, Bacon Deviled Eggs, and Fried Green Tomatoes with Red Bell Pepper Sauce. In “Dinner
Bell” and “From the Oven” Rebecca shares her recipes for comforting and hearty main dishes
and casseroles, like perfectly crisp Real Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Butter-Fried Pork Chops with
Nutmeg (one of Rebecca’s dad’s specialties), and make-ahead Southern favorites like Garden
Green Bean Casserole and All Things Sweet Potato Casserole, made in a fun fashion with
gingersnaps, mini marshmallows, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cloverleaf Yeast Rolls and Itsy-Bitsy
Cream Cheese Biscuits make warm, buttery accompaniments to any of Rebecca’s delicious main
dishes. In “Harvest Time,” Rebecca celebrates the bounty of the garden with her recipes for
gems like Heirloom Tomato Salad and Creamed Silver Queen Corn.
It wouldn’t be a Southern cookbook without a chapter devoted to desserts. Rebecca honors
centuries of baking tradition with Hummingbird Cake, a signature cake of the South, filled with
spices, bananas, and pineapple, and smothered with cream cheese frosting. Southern produce
gets the spotlight in Peach and Blueberry Cobbler and Chocolate-Bourbon Pecan Pie, while
Real Banana Pudding topped with a cloud of meringue is sure to please at any family gathering.
Sprinkled throughout the pages of Around the Southern Table are one-page “My Southern
Table” tributes from noted Southerners. Interior designer and television host Vern Yip, Zac
Brown, frontman of the two-time Grammy Award-winning Zac Brown Band, model and actress
Ali Landry, and others share what they love about the Southern table, from childhood memories
to favorite family dishes.

Every recipe in Around the Southern Table features beloved Southern ingredients and
preparations, but with the flair of its modern-but-rooted author, Rebecca Lang, who enjoys these
wonderful recipes with her family at the very same table where her grandmother ate as a child.
Rebecca writes, “There is an air of welcoming in the South not found any other place on Earth.
Behind each “yes, ma’am” and every buttered biscuit, there’s an unmistakable feeling that can’t
be bottled or sold.” Armed with Around the Southern Table, home cooks across the country
will be able to bring a touch of that Southern warmth and welcoming to their own tables.
