POWER (RE)CYCLE

OBJECTIVES

• Students will be able to recognize the

difference between recycled and non-

recycled materials.

• Students will be able to recognize the power

character in the Snow White and “recycle”/

recreate this character.

TIME & MATERIALS

• Estimated time: 120 minutes (project + writing activity)

• Materials:

1. Pen

2. Paper

3. Glue

4. Tape

5. Scissors

6. Recycled materials• This can be anything from used water bottles, old wrapping or tissue

paper, any cardboard from boxes, bubble wrap, any sort of old plastic container used to hold toilettes, etc., paper or plastic cups and/or plates and so on- if you did not buy it completely new then you can use it for this project!

PROCEDURES

1. Students will learn about recyclables- what is classified as a recyclable and what is not

2. Students will create a model of a “recycled” power figure from the fairy tale Snow White.

3. Students will compose a writing sample of some type that will incorporate this new power figure into the tale’s ending.

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS

• What gives the step-mother power in Snow White?

• Why is it important to recycle?

• How is recycling bottles, glasses, cans, etc. similar to how you “recycled” the step-mother character in the story?
