In the late 1940’s, a woman known onlyas Miss Ledoux, working withmerchants on East Douglas in Wichita,Kansas, saw a great need for a missionto aid the homeless. She approachedthe Christian Business Mens Committeein the summer of 1950, and themembers, feeling a burden for thedestitute men living on Wichita streets, agreed to establish a shelter. Therewere skeptics, however, within theCMBC membership.
Today, the Union Rescue Mission is anevangelical Christian ministrycommitted to sharing the gospel andmeeting the spiritual, physical, andemotional needs of the homeless andpoor in our community. ere is a quicklist of items they need on a daily basis:

Doors Are Opening Everywhere
I stand in a long hallwaylined with doors
I walk up and down the corridorso many years in that hallway, pacing
then suddenly, while looking awayI hear a creak
one door openedI peered in
then another door openedand another and another
then suddenly all the doorsflung open, hinges flappingopen, closed, open closed
it created an enormous windin the breezeway
it soothed my cheeksthis wind of change
these doors flung openin a line in a hallway

era long hall of pacing
flapping madlyI enter one doorway
walk into the airbeyond, then turn
and see the hallwaybehind, then I see
more doorsleading outleading in
I am walking in the airoutside the hall of doors
I see the hall of doorsfrom the outside
flapping openI, in the air
I fear not look downI walk and enter
one of the other doorsleading back into the hallwayin and out, into the air, then
reenterin and out of the hallway
into the air.Then, I decide
I must walk awayI walk in the air
towards each doorclose them, though
one at a timeI block them with a stopjust in case, just in case
I have to go backyet I know, it is too late
to go backI walk out into the airthe doors disappear
then suddenlyI am in a hallway again
only it is widermore like an enormous room
I am in this roomsuddenly the floor appears
rises to meet meI am completein this room
there are others therewe talk of hallways
and doorsand opportunities
for growthwe grow in this room
then the roomfills with doors
some of us walk throughsome stay
but all of usonce knew what it was like
to stand in a hallwaylined with doors
pacing, then to haveall the doors flung openthe doors flinging open
flapping madlygasping gladly
at the new landscapewe've all been in that hallway
looking at doorsonly to have them
suddenly openwe are all in different hallways
in different roomsthese hallways and rooms
contain us, this iswhere we live and breathe
regardlesslyI am past where I was
even if I reentera hallway filled with doors
and pace, I will never be the sameI claim my place
in this room, in the airwhere I dare walk
in the windI claim my place
in this worldof hallways, doors
and roomswe all do the same
doors are opening everywherewalk throughand journey
rather than escape.

Self Promotion2 Out of the blog sites that I visited I found that Blogger, www.blogger.com,interested me the most. The blog site seems easy to use and has many eye-catchingthemes. As I went through the tutorial the many customizable features itofferedfascinated me. Blogger also seems like a widely used site, so you may have awider audience. One con that I see for using this site is that a blog could easily getlost in theamasses. It would be your job to make sure your blog stands out from the crowd. Thegreatest pro to Blogger is that it is free to use and keep up. On your blog you shouldput up your contact e-mail information, information and updates about upcomingactivities and you should also put a page with a biography about yourself.
Creating a Facebook fan page at, www.facebook.com, would be very beneficialand convenient. Many people are on Facebook almost every day, so it would not behard to keep up or check on. The fan page URL could be posted on your blog andwebsite. Many people use Facebook as a search engine, so creating the fan pagewould give you greater marketing range. A con to using Facebook is the possiblespam. You would have to closely monitor the page to make sure it is not gettingflooded with it. On the page you should provide updated information on your projects. You should give a little information about yourself. You should also provide links toyour blog and website.
When it came to business card making I was greatly interested in usingwww.zazzle.com/businesscards. The cards on the site start at 16.95 for 100 cards. Ithought this to be a great price. I also love all of the themes that can be chosen from. The thing I love the most is that you can choose your own design. It is also a plusthat orders ship in 24 hours. On your business card you should put your name, e-mail, your business title, phone number and website. One con for zazzle is that for somany options a person could get carried away with the look. It is important to makesure that the card looks professional. I think the zazzle website makes creatingbusiness cards fun, creative and easy.
