We can present this advertisement for Ratan Batra who

was one of the founder of the CAG- this is the

document of “Indian Advertising Art” started in 1936

much before 14years of the birth of CAG Mr. Stronach

in his one of the articles in the following pages states

the year 1920, yet no such proof found Dr. G.M. Rege

in his famous book “Advertising Art & Ideas” on pages

217,218 says: Advertising in India began in a small way

with the advertisements of a few imported luxury

goods. THE BENGAL GAZETTE, the first Indian

Newspaper was started in Calcuatta,and 1780. In 1790

THE COURIER was published in BOMBAY and it carried

advertisements in Marathi,Gujarati,Kokani,Urdu and

Kanada….. The firist Indian advertising agency strated

in Bombay in 1907 another was launched in 1909. In

1931 first full-fledged Indian advertising agency was

launched…and we have this proof from first CAG’s

Annual that states 1936. The famous Sir J.J. Institute of

Applied Art started in 1935 Sir J.J.School of

Art(Est.in1857) as a small section of Commercial Art.
