Colleagues,

As you know, December is the month when end of year Appraisals are completed, so be extremely vigilant

when perusing the final document. Be prepared to submit your accomplishments when requested from

your Team Lead. Challenge what you consider to be inaccuracies and follow-up with a rebuttal to be

attached to the document. Please schedule an APOC representative to be in attendance when you are

meeting with the Team Lead.

Vacation leave consultations for 2019/2020 will begin in November for some offices. Be ready with your

selections when called upon to bid. This will allow the bid to be completed in a timely manner. As a

reminder, if you have scheduled vacation during the time the bid is being conducted, leave a few

selections with your Team Lead. Another alternative is to leave a phone number and/or email address

that you can be contacted at during your absence. Also, forty-eight (48) hours is the amount of time

allotted once you have been contacted to provide your bid. If you do not submit your selections within the

allotted timeframe, you will be bypassed.

As per the York constitution, Representatives only (for each office) will be up for re-election in January

2019. If you are interested and meet the qualifications, please advise the V.P. of your respective office.

The consultant hired to work with the Work Challenge Committee recently provided a draft report to the

National Office. The draft report was shared with the National Executive Team during the week of

October 15th for presentation to the Corporation. Within the next few weeks the final document will be

shared with the Corporation, but the timeline for a response from the Corporation is unknown at this

time. I would recommend and encourage members to visit the National website occasionally for

updates.

Hello Colleagues,

As we approach the end of 2018 please be reminded of the workload and expectations that will be placed upon us as

APOC members during the busiest time of the year at Canada Post. Here are a few words of advice from me to you:

* Please make sure that you get an adequate amount of rest during your shift, by taking your allotted breaks and lunches,

as it is a healthy and wise practice to assist you to maintain your focus and attention.

* During your off-work periods, make sure that you are getting the adequate and proper amount of rest and sleep. Some

of us need 6 to 8 hours of sleep to function effectively and efficiently, some more and some less.

* Accepting the extra hours of work requested of you at work is important during the busy time, but is not mandatory.

Accept only if you can handle it and perform your duties properly.

* If you ever have to leave work earlier than scheduled, from extended hours, or if you arrive and start work on an early

shift, please notify the team leader(s) on that shift that you are at working.

* When you work overtime, you are expected to notify your team leader of your time and the section that you worked the

over time. State the times, duration and date of the overtime you worked to ensure that you are paid correctly.

* Safety and honesty is of utmost importance. Have a pleasant, Safe and healthy Holiday.

As a result of the Holiday period, there will be no APOC meeting /consultations in the month of December unless it is for

emergency or contingencies purposes and they will resume in the New Year.

West Transportation has one OP1 short term absence backfilled by a relief and a term to backfill the relief

position at this time.

South Transportation currently has one PT position going through the staffing process.

WPDH has one OP2 absence backfilled with an OP1, and a term backfilling the OP1 position.

MOS did not have any movement last month and will be having a consultation this month. Let us know if you

have any issues and we will address them for you.

Learning and Development have added more trainers in the plant and delivery. They will also like to add

another Fleet trainer to assist with the training.

I want to remind everyone that if you have any questions on any issue please contact me at email or phone

number listed above or the Branch office at 905-479-5950 and we will address your concern.

Q-4 comes with much promise and equal uncertainty! CUPW and CPC remain at the negotiation

table hoping to avert any labour disruption. Legalization of Cannabis and it’s delivery by CPC has

started.

Delivery continues to be challenged to incorporate growth, new product and service offerings as well

as to adapt for the decline of letter mail. Change is the only constant in delivery, with our success

being a testimony of the efforts of our APOC members.

Depots are preparing for peak season, winter readiness and the increase in seasonal employees. PDT

batteries remain a challenge for depots not having their PDT batteries refreshed until after peak.

There are reports of PDT batteries failing within hours after being charged.

APOC staffing continues to be a challenge with PCR staffing reports not always reflecting the actual

position that members are performing. We continue to have our REPS and members monitor the

weekly PCR staffing reports.

Our work challenge committee has completed its report and submitted to our National office. Our

National team will now review and submit to Canada Post.

Consultation this month was October 9, 2018. The Corporation advised that the construction on the VES

Supervisors podium will begin Oct. 27th 2018 at 16:00 hours and continue through until Monday Oct. 29th

ending at 16:00 hours; additional time maybe required. The Supervisors podium will be replaced with a new

platform and cabinets. They have also agreed to put in sit/stand work stations.

There have been a few cases of potential OT bypasses. If you feel you have been bypassed please contact your

reps or myself as soon as possible to have it resolved as there is a timeline we have to follow should it result in

filling a grievance.

The next consultation is scheduled for November 13th we will be discussing Annual Leave at that meeting. If

you have anything you would like raised at this consultation, please contact your shift reps. Stephen Kalafatis,

shift 1, Kathleen Rogers, shift 2. I can be reached at 416- 462-4234 my APOC email is slppvice@apocyork.ca.

Have a safe and Happy Holiday.

Stone Blemano

Gateway VP

Gateway had a consultation on October 10th and further details on staffing on the ISPS and WUSS

were discussed. As you are all aware the ISPS has had a soft launch and it is expected to process all packets coming from

USA and ROW. Currently, the processes are being tweaked and eventually all packets from USA and ROW will stay on the

West side. The NPS on the East side will be primarily used to process domestic originating packets. The WUSS on shift 2 is

now being utilized to process all air parcels originating from USA and ROW. EUSS and LPS will be used to process domestic

originating parcels.

There are still concerns about the process used to update APOC Equal opportunity lists. Our DVP has provided a template

that is currently being used at SCLPP and we are hoping that it could be used to reduce and/or eliminate the issues

surrounding the E/O lists at Gateway. As an APOC membership we continue to be committed to being transparent and

ensuring that the lists are visible and easily accessible.

CPC will be splitting the Casual employees into 12 lists to have a consistent group of casuals report in any given section

and shift. Designated team leads on each shift/side of the plant have been identified to manage SAP/Attendance related

functions for these casuals.

In preparation for the peak season, a new facility, located adjacent to NECF will be equipped with 3 CUBI’s and will handle

oversize parcels. This will come into operation in mid-November and run till mid-January 2019. It will be a Mon to Fri

operation, running 3 shifts and will be staffed primarily with casuals along with some permanent staff of an average of 20

FT PO4’s, per shift. This will generate 1 OP1 position per shift along with 1 OP2 position, reporting to the Manager of the

NECF. It should be noted that these positions will have minimum opportunity of overtime at this new location.

Peak 2018 is upon us. I urge you to maintain a proper work life balance during this season. Keep working as a team and

support each other in this upcoming season.

Robin S. Sharma once said “Leadership is not about a title or designation. It’s about impact, influence and inspiration.

Impact involves getting results, influence is about spreading the passion you have for your work, and you have to

inspire team-mates and customers.” Keep in touch GATEWAY TEAM! Sangeeta Dinshaw

Update on uniform – The uniform committee met with the Corporation on October 22nd in Ottawa. We made a

presentation to the branding team and had Logistik Unicorp show samples of the new uniform that we are hoping to have

for our members. We were able to get the majority of the uniform approved and we are now proceeding to the ordering

of materials and the making of live samples for test wearing. This process takes quite some time as it is at least 3-4

months for materials to be received from overseas and then testing of the material to ensure that it meets certain

standards for durability, colour fading, and wearability before it can be tested.

We are really excited that we are finally at a point where we can almost see the finish line, although it is still a long way

off. It has taken us a long time to get us to this point and we can’t wait until our new uniform is available for ordering.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As we draw near to the end of the year, it is important to remember to take time to rest, relax, and enjoy the time with
your family and friends as well as to ensure that you stay safe and healthy during the stressful and hectic holiday season.
Volumes will be unpredictable but it is anticipated that they will exceed last years by about 18%. With that said, it is
important to ensure that you do not over commit or exert yourselves during this busy time and that you take your
scheduled breaks and lunches to ensure that you are working safely and well rested. There is usually a lot of overtime
available during this time; please ensure that if you are working extra hours or shifts that you are well rested and able to
perform your work to the best of your ability.
During the holiday season, more than ever, our thoughts turn gratefully to those who have made our progress and accomplishments possible and it is with this spirit, that we sincerely say Thank You and Best Wishes to you and yours this holiday season and into the New Year!
