• Digital Tasks

• Such as: sending an email; filling in a form;

shopping online

• Digital Literacy

• Confident and able to do a number of

tasks independently

• Digital Fluency

• Confident to try whatever need to

do on the internet without help

16

17

No-one can do this alone

18

£1.7bn annual saving for UK Government

Cost of c. £30 per head to support someone from digital exclusion to

digital inclusion

19

Moving onto government services• No-one’s ‘spark’ to get digital skills is to interact

with Government online • (except to get a job)

• After gaining digital inclusion via UK online centres:

– 81% visited central/local Government websites

– 56% moved at least one face-to-face or telephone contact to an online contact with Government

– average contacts moved online 3.8 in past month

for digital inclusion

in UK only 6% of online people ONLY use a smartphone/tablet

24

Broadband access is not digital inclusion

Having access is importantHaving good access is important

Using the internet = digital inclusion

25

We can’t CAN help (almost) everybody
