Autism and KSPS There are lots of students on the

Autism Spectrum at KSPS and this is OK.

Some are in the Special Educational Class like K-2F, 3-5S, 3-5K and 5-6R and this is OK.

Some are in your class too and this is OK.

People are born with Autism. You can’t catch it, develop it or fix it but you can work towards managing it with great strategies.

What is Autism?

Autism is a spectrum disorder that makes your brain work differently. Being on the Autism Spectrum can affect

How they make friends or interact with people

How they communicate with people

How their senses work – hear, see, feel, taste, smell

Strategies that help us learn Calm quiet areas to cool down

Rocking stools or chairs to help wiggle

Spikey cushions on seats or the floor

Weighted lap blankets for pressure

Timers

Smaller classes so its not so busy

Headphones when its too loud

Visual aides so we know whats next

Sensory tools so fidget with so our eyes and ears can be learners

Autism and you are OK!

Some of the behaviours the students on the Autism Spectrum show may seem different, strange or amazing to you but they are OK.

You cant fix Autism but it will help if you understand that being Autistic is OK.

The more awareness that we raise about Autism means that we can all learn together.

Having fun on Blue Day

Thursday is Blue Day at KSPS On Blue Day everyone around the

world learns about Autism and how we can support students and people who are Autistic.

You can help by being a friend and understanding what they need to be a afriend and learner at school. Students with Autism like having fun like everyone else.

Help KSPS raise money to purchase resources that support all the students on the Autism Spectrum to be learners.
