Autumn in Gistrup

The village Gistrup is situated near a small forest called

Lundby Krat.

The leaf colours are so incredibly beautiful in the beginning of autumn and can be used in many different ways.

Early autumn in Lundby Krat

You can find a lot of mushrooms in the forest.

A lot of work to do in the garden.

The fruit has to be harvested and put away for the winter.

Pumpkins for Halloween

Autumn and especially winter can be a hard time for the birds.

My dogs still love to play in our garden.

The church in Gistrup

In autumn there is a service in the church called ”harvest service”. It is to thank God for the year’s good harvest.

In week 41, we have a thematic week at school where we learn about healthy food and the importance of being in

very good shape.

We prepare a healthy meal.

Friday in week 41 is not a normal schoolday. Almost all schools in Denmark organize a jogging. We run about 10 kms.

The jogging

In week 42 the school is closed and we are on holiday. It is called Autumn Holiday.

Long time ago this holiday was called Potato Holiday because the children had to help to pick up the potatoes.

Nowadays families can visit local museums during the Autumn Holidays to experience how it was to pick up potatoes the oldfashioned

way.

Or you can learn how to cook a traditional dish using potatoes.

You can also make a kind of a doll using potatoes.

Many Greetings from us at
