This book is dedicated to our dear friend and the fifth member of Angels & Airwaves, Critter. Thank you for the memories you captured along the way.

So I pretended I was writing an intro to a photo book. I do this to amuse myself. I like writing.

This was the result. I like it.

Passionate intensity. Before I even got close to doing my thing and recording a back beat, this crazy man was pontificating a dream. That’s the moment a job

became an adventure. I wiggled my butt. It evolved. I made friends. It’s a complicated fusion. My camera is another appendage. Credit my grandpa. The first

brilliant shot was Tom scared and thoughtful. That’s the adventure. In that shutter press, there was the revealing that haunts the thirst of a finger capturing an

instant. A 60th of a second caught a moment of goofy guy worried. And in that moment, gorgeous. We are catapulted towards death. The discovery of someone

with an unscratchable itch to transform is fucking fun. Which brings me back to passionate intensity.

Before I even stepped into the studio, before I’d heard a song, this wacko was selling me on not just the song, but the reason for it. I like that. It’s the compelling

bit that drags you to get up before the sun and hop on a boat to a Channel Island and love it. It’s the thrill in a finger and sunlight gasping. It began with a

stranger blathering about love and war and a concept. It became much more. The crazy thing about Tom is his visual take on music. He’s a performer, so he

brings that to the table of writing. I will never forget his explanation of a musical pause based on a light show. It’s a nice counterbalance that reminded me

of why the fuck I do this. Ultimately, these are my friends. It’s why I point a camera. I want them vulnerable, fragile and sneezing. They are heros to me. It’s

my life and I only get one go round. But they are also, just heros. The shit I love about them resonates, both in inspiration and in you becoming. I like freezing

a moment. I like witnessing. I create, but I’m a fan of this crazy life. I’m proud of catching Atom dripping sweat in a rare mohawk moment. I like that I caught

Tom contemplative - and trust me, the man sells himself with his own enthusiasm. David is frozen in a strutting moment before a crowd. And this, the shy boy,

jumping walls and exploding in a motorcycle dash. Matt is both crazy and laser-like sane. These are photos. Glimpses, if you will. Snapshots of my heros. Frail

and kicking your ass.

Like life, it’s tentative, fragile, and halting. And these are the memories gorgeous. The impulse of a finger loving the moment when friends become. The

mystique I adore is the beating heart of those who share my life. This is their legacy, in obscene glances, laced in silver. However, being titans doesn’t resolve

the eternal question of carne asada vs carnitas. And no matter how many pretty pictures I shoot, I won’t ever solve the burrito incident.

Not that I won’t try.
