The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO,

pronounced /aɪˈkeɪoʊ/;) is a specialized agency of the United

Nations. It codifies the principles and techniques of international

air navigation and fosters the planning and development of

international air transport to ensure safe and orderly growth. Its

headquarters are located in Montreal, Canada.

ICAO Council adopts standards and recommends practices

about air navigation, its infrastructure, flight inspection,

prevention of unlawful interference, and facilitation of border-

crossing procedures for international civil aviation.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO,

defines the protocols for air accident investigation followed

by transport safety authorities in countries signatory to

the Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago

Convention).

ICAO is a United Nations body. 191 member states.

Services Organization) part of Air Navigation Services Providers,

The Convention on International Civil Aviation, also known

as the Chicago Convention, established the International Civil

Aviation Organization (ICAO), a specialized agency of

the United Nations charged with coordinating and regulating

international air travel. The Convention establishes rules

of airspace, aircraft registration and safety, and details the rights

of the signatories in relation to air travel. The Convention also

exempts air fuels from tax.

Article 29: Before an international flight, the pilot in command

must ensure that the aircraft is airworthy, duly registered and

that the relevant certificates are on board the aircraft. The

required documents are:

Certificate of Registration; Certificate of Airworthiness;

Passenger names, place of boarding and destination; Crew

licenses; Journey Logbook; Radio License; Cargo manifest
