AYSO REGION 8 GRANADA HILLS
Team Parent Information Packet 2019 SEASON
www.ayso8.org
facebook.com/region8
Welcome to the 2019 AYSO Region 8 Fall soccer season. Thank you for volunteering. You are very much appreciated! In order to have a great season, we've provided you with all the information you'll need including, rules, guidelines, important dates, and suggestions. Remember that we are all here for our children. We want them to make new friends, learn new skills, enjoy physical fitness and have fun. Be the example, as well as remind other parents, to practice respect and kindness to everyone on the field; from players to referees as well as the opposing team. The Team Parent is the liaison between the region board and the team. You are a valuable part of the region and a big asset to your team. It is the responsibility of the Team Parent (you) to relate all important rules and information to the (team) parents and guardians of the players. You are not expected to take on all the responsibilities. You are encouraged to delegate to other parents on your team to help you carry out those responsibilities. We, the region board and myself, are here to assist you with all the information you'll need to accomplish a smooth season. I am here to help guide and direct you as you manage your team. I’ve provided you with this Team Parent information packet. If, throughout the season, you cannot find answers to your questions in the information packet, then please don't hesitate to contact me. Thank you, Vivian Centurion, Team Parent Coordinator vivayso8soccer@aol.com

ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST: (Coach, Asst. Coach, Referees, Asst. Refs, Team Parents, and Board Members)
As you know AYSO is an all-volunteer organization. Coaches, assistant coaches, referees, team parents, and board members are all volunteers. Parents, relatives, and friends lend their time and talents so that each region can function. The volunteer registration is very important and mandatory to ensure our kids are in a safe environment.
1. fill out an online volunteer registration form (STEP ONE)
2. take the online Safe Haven Course (STEP TWO)
3. CDC Concussion Awareness Course (STEP THREE)
VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION (step one) GO TO: www.ayso8.org, click “Register Now” at top right corner of our Region’s web page
You will be directed to several screens where you will need to input your information. Follow prompts carefully.
The application is complete when you do your e-signature and click submit. DO NOT STOP AT THE E-SIGNATURE,
YOU WILL NEED TO CONTINUE ON AND CLICK SUBMIT!!! (your confirmation is an e-mail response, welcoming
you to region 8)
There is no need to print the volunteer application unless you want to keep a copy for yourself.
(Then) check your email. You will receive your AYSO ID number and a link to www.aysotraining.org. Follow given
directions to complete Safe Haven and Concussion Training.
ON-LINE SAFE HAVEN & CONCUSSION TRAINING (steps 2 & 3)
NO EXCEPTIONS. You will need to go to: our region’s web site www.ayso8.org and click on the “AYSOU” tab to connect to AYSO’s online training courses. Log in and click “My Courses”.
Safe Haven is also available in Spanish.
Please PRINT YOUR CERTIFICATE at the end of the course to ensure your certification has been submitted.
Keep printed copy for your own records.
For returning volunteers: Update your CDC and Safe Haven online courses every two years. If your last
certification was dated 2017 or earlier, you’ll need to update for this year.
To check if you’re current: log onto www.ayso8.org, click “AYSOU”. Log in and confirm completion date.
TEAM PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
COMPLETE volunteer registration via our region’s website www.ayso8.org (click “register now”)
COMPLETE or UPDATE “Safe Haven” and “CDC” courses.
Know your Division Manager and their contact information.
For your DM: Make a team roster with players’ names and numbers as soon as you distribute uniforms.
Obtain copies of team’s registration forms and keep with you anytime you are on the field (games & practices)
Make and distribute game and snack schedule (16U-18U; snacks optional)-make sure to include important dates
On Picture day- gather and sign in your team (or delegate another parent)
Sponsors, Boosters & Candid Pictures- collect and turn in money (or delegate another parent)
Collect money/card for coaches/refs gift for end of the year "thank you"
Plan end of the season party for your team
Convey AYSO rules to parents of players- have a team meeting and/or distribute rules/guidelines for the team.
4
GAME SCHEDULE: Will be given to coach and posted online at www.ayso8.org, after Labor Day weekend. Opening game day will be
on Sept. 7th
The schedule will tell us what time we will play and on what field
6U and 8U expect to play every Saturday from September to week-end before Thanksgiving
10U, 12U, 14U expect to play every Saturday from September to mid-December
16U and 18U expect to play every Saturday and Sunday from September to mid-November
Make a copy of schedule and distribute them to each player’s family
GOAL SET UP/ TEAR DOWN
If your team is scheduled as the FIRST or LAST game to play, plan sufficient time for responsibilities
HOME TEAM (North or West side of field) VISITOR TEAM (South or East side of field) KNOW YOUR SIDELINE AND
LET YOUR PARENTS KNOW WHERE TO SIT.
FIRST GAME TEAMS (Both Visitor and Home):
1. Take goals from green bin to fields; set up both goals/nets
AND 2. Assist our Region Board; set up field with trash cans, recycling bins, and region canopy
LAST GAME TEAMS (Both Visitor and Home):
1. Take down both goals/nets; take goals back to green bin and place inside the bin
AND
2. Assist our Region Board; put away trash cans, recycling bins, and region canopy This is NOT the coach or the assistant coach's responsibility it's the WHOLE TEAM's responsibility. Appoint
parents to help.
IMPORTANT: Game times will not be extended. For example, if first game is scheduled to start at 10am but
goal/nets not up until 10:10am, then your game has now been shortened by 10 minutes. We need to stay on
schedule, so plan sufficient time for your team’s responsibility.
***Regardless of where shade is, your team must sit on your assigned side. Tell your parents that if the assigned
sideline doesn’t have shade, they will need to bring their own shade, like canopy or umbrella. Parents and visiting
spectators need to sit on the same sideline as their team. This is to minimize unnecessary heated exchanges from
spectators. A Board Member or Referee can stop the game until a resolution is decided (and they’ll have to move
anyway). For the safety and harmony of the game and players please sit on your team’s sideline regardless of
shade.
BANNERS:
Team name must be approved BEFORE ordering banner. E-mail 3 choices to your Division Manager (see pg 2),
include team number (i.e., #1002). Even if NOT ordering banner, you must email your 3 name choices for
approval.
Number of players should be confirmed before ordering banner.
Banner can have the name OR the number of the player but NOT both.
NO PHOTOS OF PLAYERS AND THEIR NAMES OR JERSEY NUMBERS NEXT TO THE PHOTOS ON THE BANNERS.
Suggestion: delegate responsibility to a family, to collect money (first), purchase banner (second), and bring to all
games, especially to picture day
5
Having a banner is optional (however, most teams in 14U division and younger will usually have one)
Although we provide you with flyers from various Banner companies, we do not endorse them but allow you the
freedom to make your own choices.
TEAM SNACKS and CLEANUP:
Assign and rotate a different family to bring snacks every week. (i.e., abc order) See sample on page 10.
At half time-quartered oranges or any kind of juicy fruit
At end of game-a drink and treat (i.e., Juice pouch and bag of chips)
Also, the snack family should bring a trash bag, wet wipes or napkins, and ice (in case of player injury)
It’s also a nice gesture to offer referees and coaches snack at half-time (oranges and/or a drink)
Everyone on the team is responsible for cleaning up surrounding area after games and practices.
Use trash cans and recycling bins. Help us be good guests of the fields or we may not be invited back.
Each player is responsible for their own water/sports drink during game breaks and practice.
**Players are NOT allowed come off the field, unless they are sitting out. Parents are to bring water to the
sideline. This makes it easier for determining and keeping track of substitutions for coaches and referees.
UNIFORMS:
Players must be in complete uniform or they will not be allowed to play.
Region provides team shorts, team shirt and team socks.
Parents provide shin guards and soccer cleats (no front cleats; sneakers are ok).
During cold days, players may wear sweats under uniform. They do not need to be the same color as uniform
(except during playoffs)
NO jewelry of any kind allowed on players during games or at practices. (Medical bracelets need to be taped on
the wrist)
Nothing hard is allowed on the head (no hard barrettes, bobby pins, hard headbands; only soft materials on top
of player’s head)
DO NOT ADD NAMES TO UNIFORMS
Uniform numbers are important throughout the season for the weekly lineup card, referee and statistician use.
When passing out uniforms:
notate players numbers; include info in team roster (DM will need this info ASAP)
give smaller numbered uniforms to smaller players
larger numbered uniforms to larger players
Once uniforms distributed it's very difficult to exchange. It's best to make the originals work.
If for some reason there is a problem, contact your Division Manager (see pg. 2) ASAP
IMPORTANT Rules and Reminders (share with family and friends): CHECK E-MAILS before coming to practice.
PARKING SIGNS must be adhered. If parked in non-parking area or "staff" parking, you will be towed. "Staff"
parking does not belong to AYSO staff, it is reserved for Petit Park Rec Center staff. Do not make your own
parking area; you will be towed.
NO SMOKING on field, including electronic/vapor cigarettes. You will be asked to leave.
NO ALCOHOL on field- will be asked to leave.
6
NO PETS of any kind allowed on field during games and practices. Our field is not a public park on game days and
during practice. AYSO pays a permit to play there- our permit can be taken away if we violate it. If someone
brings a pet to any practices or games they will be asked to leave. If left in the car, animal control will be notified.
POINT SYSTEM: 10U, 12U & 14U: 8 points to be eligible to participate in playoffs
6 points for refereeing on the field and 2 points for attending Monday night Referee Meetings
It's imperative that it is understood without referee points the team will not go to playoffs; even if the team wins
every single game during the season.
REFEREE:
"AYSO certified" referee points are needed, in order to be eligible to participate in playoffs.
Teams in 10U, 12U, and 14U must have certified referees undertaking at least 6 games per team AND 2 meetings
per team to participate in playoffs. (8 points total)
The referee must be related to the child on the team and over 18 years old for qualifying points.
Encourage at least 2 adults to become referees. Sometimes there is a parent who has a child on 10U and 14U –
it’s not fair for that one parent to do 12 games so that both children's team can qualify!!
Volunteers must sign up online; www.ayso8.org then click “register now” (at the top right of page)
New referees will start off helping with 10U games. We will work with you throughout the season until you're
comfortable. Our goal is to help and encourage our new refs.
Weekly Referee meetings on Monday nights, 7pm- 9pm at Petit Park (Granada Hills Rec Center), Guest speakers
will visit throughout the season. All referees are encouraged, and all others are invited to attend.
NEW referees MUST attend TWO Monday night meetings to complete certification. (Certification required for
referee points to be eligible in playoffs.)
Experienced Coaches (who are AYSO certified Referees) may earn all 6 referee points for their team, if they
choose. You are still required to attend TWO Monday Night meetings.
Coaches (who are not certified AYSO Referees) can also attend TWO Monday night meetings to earn 2 meeting
points.
Refer your coach and/or referee to our Referee Administrator or Division Manager (on pg 2) for more
information not covered above.
YOUTH REFEREE:
Must be 12 years and older
Will be assigned to referee games of players who are two years younger than them.
Can earn service hours (i.e., church, synagogue or school)
No playoff points
7
PICTURE DAY:
Saturday, Sept. 28th at Petit Park picnic area on the corner of Rubio & San Jose next to green storage bin
Teams will be given specific appointment times prior to Picture Day.
Teams at Petit will need to arrive 1 hour BEFORE game time.

CANDID PICTURES:
You are encouraged to take candid pictures for the yearbook. Include as many pictures of the WHOLE team as
possible; include as many players as you can to represent your team.
ONLY CDs, Flash Drive, or Memory Cards to be dropped off at Picture Day. Identify your team’s contribution with
the team name, team number, division number and if boys/girls,. (i.e., Strikers Team#1005 B10U)

staff cannot work with or edit scanned or hard copy pictures. For the quality of the work we ask you to adhere to
the above.
Contact: Erick Arevalo, abea98@yahoo.com. In as much as we try to include as many pictures, we can’t guarantee
all submitted photos will be printed in the year book.
CD, Flash Card, and Memory Card may be returned if return name and address are clearly printed on envelope.
Suggestion: Delegate a parent volunteer for this opportunity.
THEN AND NOW PICTURES: (16U-18U players and adult volunteers) The yearbook will have "then and now" pictures of 16U, 18U and volunteers that played in AYSO as little children.
Collect "Then" pictures and submit on or before picture day.
All photos should include player name, team name, phone number and self-addressed stamped envelope to
have "Then and Now" pictures returned to you. The "Now" picture will be collected when the picture packages
are distributed.
Due by Sept 28th (there will be a drop box at picture day)
8
SPONSORS:
Each team is asked to get at least one sponsor. We will showcase the sponsor’s ad/flyer
(artwork/picture/business card) in our end of season yearbook. Great advertisement for local companies.
Sponsorship contributions keep our region fees low. Registration alone does not cover all our region's expenses
(i.e., uniforms, equipment, trophies, yearbooks, field permit fees, field maintenance costs, and insurance.)
The contribution cost of a sponsorship is tax deductible.
Original Copy of Sponsor form must be completed including artwork (logo) or business card and check payable to
"AYSO Region 8". Place all in one envelope and bring to picture day.
Also send the ad/flyer/business card/picture as a jpeg, pdf, word, or tif format. DO NOT scan and email. All
scanned pictures will NOT be accepted. It is difficult to work with scanned ads, and the quality of the ad suffers.
DO NOT send the Sponsor form to Erick; only the ad. The (hard copy) Sponsor form and ad deliver to Picture Day.
Regarding ad size: for half page ad, format must be landscape. Quarter page ad format must be portrait. Full page
and business card sizes can use either landscape or portrait. This will ensure a better quality picture.
Sponsors do not have to be a business. If a team cannot find a sponsor, it is suggested, that the parents on the
team get together and co-sponsor their team. (Suggestion: take a silly or clever team picture with an interesting
tag line below)
In order to process appropriately for your team, use the “sponsor form” provided on page 12; and is also
available on the website. For size of artwork (logo or picture) or business card see page 13.
Contact: Erick Arevalo at abea98@yahoo.com, for questions
BOOSTERS:
Boosters are short encouraging notes to players from their families. They are printed in the year book. (Boosters
are optional; players enjoy looking forward to reading their own special boosters.)
Cost is $1 for every 10 words. ($2 for 11-20 words and so on.) Only English written boosters will be printed.
Deadline: Sept. 28th, use drop box at picture day to submit
How to submit boosters: 1. Collect booster messages and cash from parents, relatives, and friends. (You can give a booster message
to anyone. Players, coaches, referees, team parents, or any other volunteer.)
2. Create (on your home computer) a “booster form” as Word Document (see example template on pg. 11)
3. EMAIL completed form to aysoblooddrive@gmail.com with subject line “boosters”
4. PRINT a hard copy. Place CASH and FORM in ONE envelope per team “Attn: Boosters”
* There will be a box at Picture Day to submit your Boosters, Sponsors, and Candid Pictures.
9
SILENT SATURDAY:
Used in Regions throughout the country. Our Area will be participating again this season. Date to be determined.
o Some objectives are:
o To encourage leadership skills among individual players as they have the unique opportunity of giving
their own instruction on the field
o To encourage a sense of true teamwork as the players must learn to rely upon one another and
communicate with each other accordingly
o Detailed flyer will be passed out before the date.
RULES are: Spectators are to give no verbal comments about the game or directions to players, coaches, or referees.
Spectators are to be creative in cheering (i. e., make signs, use pompoms with team colors, do the wave)
Clapping IS allowed but NO noise makers or horns.
Coaches cannot give verbal direction to players on the field but may quietly speak with players on the beach.
Players on the field can speak to each other on the fields. Players on the bench may cheer but NO verbal
directions or comments.
Referees have been instructed to stop the game and issue a warning if spectators, coaches, and players do not
follow the rules. Referees will handle escalated behavior at their discretion; with the possibility of a second
warning and/or termination of the game.
