FROM THE DESK OF OUR COLLEGE PRINCIPAL Our Diversity Our Strength As hopefully you now know on this Friday the 26th of May, we have a special day of Celebra on planned for all the families in our College. Across our College community we have 56 different languages spoken other than English. We believe that this glorious cultural diversity is our strength as an educa onal organisa on and will spend a day acknowledging and celebra ng this. We invite you to a end for part of, or the whole day! I realise that working people may not be able to a end during the school hours so we have ac vi es planned up un l 7pm at night at the Tarneit Campus. We hope to see everyone in na onal costume, involved in our longest lunch/ Dinner whilst sampling foods from many countries, enjoying spor ng events, performances and classroom ac vi es. We are asking people to come and tell their story, to learn a dance from another country and to take away a wristband as a permanent memento of the day of celebra on. When you come to visit, please take me to look at the art projects that are shown around the two schools. So much work has gone into demonstra ng our commitment to celebra ng our diversity through student artwork.
Concern about The of Property From me to me, we have complaints that property, whilst at school, has been stolen. We do have a policy that, in allowing children to bring special items to school, we are assuming that the responsibility lies with the child to look a er their property. This week we had a mobile phone stolen and it was reported to the police who have subsequently taken ac on on behalf of the family affected by the the . The Educa on Department has clear guidelines related to students involved in the the of property and these must be ac oned at mes. So, the key message is that you must take care when bringing items to school and stealing is always wrong and can have severe consequences when police are in-volved.
College Start Times I need to remind you that school starts at a designated me and we ask that all children are in the school ready to enter their learning spaces and get ready for a day of solid learning ten minutes before the bell rings. I am concerned about the number of children who arrive late and miss that organised start to their day. Just to remind you at Derrimut we need your child at school by 8:50 am for a 9am start and at the Tarneit Campus we need your child at school by 8:35am for an 8:45am start.
Catch Up / Get Ahead Friday Last year we started a new program that allowed children to catch up on work each Friday a ernoon. I am just delighted with the work that is being done on the last hour of the day each Friday. Teachers have agreed to pro-vide some focussed work to children who may need a li le more me to learn something new for them. It will almost certainly involve more work on the basics with reading, wri ng and number. Now for some of our stu-dents who are performing at a high level it will mean some extension work to challenge them. When your child gets home from school each Friday, ask if they did some catch up/ get ahead work. Ask them it is helping them to learn more, improve and feel good about the day. UMAR "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Without breakfast you won’t be able to pay attention in classwork and you will have hard times if you don’t eat breakfast. Everyone should be grateful that we have food as some people have nothing to eat at home."
NATALIE "If you go to Breakfast Club, you can sit down with your friends and have some breakfast. You also can meet new friends. It is good because they also have the radio going. Maybe one time you can check out Breakfast Club yourself – I’ll definitely be there. Come in and say hel-lo, we don’t bite, we are all friendly and polite. Just bring in your manners and an appetite!"

BREAKFAST CLUB THANKS YOU
Baden Powell College would like to sincerely thank the wonderful sponsors for our Breakfast Club that we run twice a week at each campus. Without the
support of the magnificent Sikh community including Sunil, Simon Fugazzotto and these generous companies we would not have been able to provide for the
many students who enjoy breakfast at school. We sincerely thank you from the staff and students of Baden Powell College.
