BAROFIBRE® Lost Circulation and Seepage Loss AdditiveField-proven, non-toxic cellulosic material can effectively seal microfracturesto help end losses fast

Primary applications

• Lost circulation pill (30 to 50 ppb)

• Pretreatment in anticipated seepage loss zone wells (2 to 10 ppb in active system)

• Sweeps to seal loss zone(s) and reduce torque and drag

Compatible with water-, oil- andsynthetic-based fluids

In wells where known loss zones exist, pretreating with 5 to 10 ppb BAROFIBRE lost circulation material (LCM) can seal off microfractures and thirsty sands before lossesare initiated.

When properly formulated,BAROFIBRE additive can be usedin pills, sweeps and maintenancetreatments with no adverse effecton rheological and filtrationcontrol properties. The cellulosicmaterial helps decrease thepermeability of the wallcake in alldrilling fluid types. BAROFIBRELCM additions do not interferewith pumping equipment ordownhole tools.

Recirculates throughshaker

Both regular and superfine grindsare available to match the type ofloss encountered or anticipated ona specific well. A significantamount of BAROFIBRE LCMrecirculates through most standardshaker screens, depending ondrilling fluid properties and flow rates.

Application of BAROFIBRE LCM can provide sealing of loss zones. When used in combinationwith BARACARB® bridging agent and STEELSEAL® LCM, it can bridge the loss zone.

BAROFIBRE LCM Case Histories

• Pretreatment Using BAROFIBRE LCM Seals Off Depleted Sand

In preparation for drilling through a subpressured sandstone (4.0 parts per gallon equivalent) in eastern Oklahoma, a

diesel-base drilling fluid system was pretreated with BAROFIBRE Superfine LCM. The long openhole interval was

drilled from 4,150 ft to total depth (TD) at 14,270 ft with no losses and in record time. The well was finished 34 days

faster than the AFE (Authority for Expenditure) estimate.

The operator saved $40,000 a day in rig costs by reaching TD in half the allotted time.

• Drill Ahead Problem-Free with a Powerful LCM Combo

For a strong defense against known loss zones, operators combine the sealing effect of BAROFIBRE LCM with two

proven bridging agents: STEELSEAL LCM and BARACARB bridging agent.

In a comparison between direct offset wells in the Gulf of Mexico, pretreatment of the synthetic-base fluid system with

BAROFIBRE LCM and the use of BAROFIBRE-STEELSEAL-BARACARB sweeps reduced seepage losses by 50 percent

while drilling sandstone and unconsolidated sands.

The reduction in losses resulted in a $250,000 savings on a single well.
