Champs!Girls Varsity Soccer

Varsity soccer had a great year : with captains Hannah MacMillan (MVP) and Zoe Dorian at the helm, we could not lose! No ques-tion our defining moment was winning the MAISAD champion-ship for the first time in 17 years against Hebron! Also, starting

the captains circle was a blast. We could not have done it without MIP Tierra Williams—an animal on the field! We also bonded like no other Phoenix team ever....we were/are sisters (plus Mr. Newburg). Thank you Mr. Newburg for rais-ing the bar and believing! And we like the extreme haircut!

It has been a privilege being a captain for the Boys Varsity Soccer Team this term. With valiant effort and determination, the season concluded with a 4-6-2 record. Midway through the season, we were struggling with five losses and only one win. After a crucial team meeting we addressed

attitudes and started turning the season around. A week later, our eager squad traveled to the Woodstock campus, ready to take on the Hyde-Woodstock Var-sity Soccer team. We emerged victorious, and gained the confidence and mo-mentum to continue on with a five-game undefeated steak to end the season, including a tie with the MASAID champions and New England qualifiers, Kents Hill. This team had courage and commitment, and I am proud to have been one of its captains. Go Phoenix!

Our defining moment: the last game against Hebron....we unfor-tunately lost by one penalty kick—the LAST penalty kick, after two five-minute over times. But what doesn’t kill you will make you stronger! Our greatest challenge: bringing the team together

from all different levels of skills. UNITY!!! Best memory: team bonding in deckhouse (funny games), going to Gelato Fiasco with Mr. Eberhart. “IT’S BATH TIME!” And having Ms. Sanborn as a coach....Ms. Sanborn, you have transformed girls JV sports at Hyde. Special thanks to you and Mr. Eberhart for everything you do.

For me, a defining moment was stepping into the Hebron game as quarterback when starting QB Harry Smith was hurt—there I was under the lights with the whole school attending! How could I ever fill Harry’s shoes? Then, on the second play, I threw a 10-yard touch-

down pass to Connor H! We were up by 14 points. That moment gave me confidence the rest of the season. What a memory!

Who will ever forget the meet at Hebron where we ran “the wall.” Our greatest challenge: consistent injuries on a small team. Best memory: at the end of the season when the entire team prac-ticed and ran at our best. What a feeling! Thank you Mr. Grant

Pushing the LimitBoys Cross Country

Winning my first two races of the season and setting the bar for our season was a defining moment for me. Our greatest challenge was definitely getting the whole team to show up for Mr. Grant’s challenging interval workouts! Who will ever

forget: winning the rainy race against Woodstock on fall family weekend! And were we wet! Thank you Mr. Grant for bringing discipline and hard work to our team. Go Phoenix!

The team’s defining moment was our last game. We were the underdogs and although we lost we played one of our best games and the community was really there for us. Fighting

through the dishonesties and negative influences on our team was a big challenge, but my best memory was definitely the Augusta Tournament. In the first game I made two three-pointers within the last two minutes to put our team ahead and win the game. In the second game I will never forget experiencing the spirit of our Hyde-Bath community as our team showed its best teamwork ever! MVP was Ted cercos and MIP was Alex Needham. Our captains were Ted Cercos, Harry Smith, and Kurt Chessman. What a season!

Ah, memories! Winning the men’s 4 X 200 relay in States was great! Won Ho Chang, James Frazer, Eric Peterson, and Wenkai Ou won first place in the 200 yard freestyle relay, with a time of 1:34.06. And our MVP Won Ho set a meet and pool record in

the 100 yard butterfly. His time was a lightning-fast 49.92 which is 1.11 seconds faster than his season best! Our hard-working captains were Dexter Jenks and Brittany Hardin. MIP was Sophia Raftopolous.

Girls JV Basketball

We had lots of defining moments as a team. We really struggled before we could believe in ourselves and trust-ed each other. One of the best memories was when we won our second game playing Hebron, it was such a great moment for us and brought us all together. After that we started acting as one unit—you just have to believe! Bringing the team together and trusting each other was challenging, but when we came together as

a team, you could see that chemistry! Best memory? When Grace made the last shot of the season—she had been working so hard and she had improved a lot. She came from learning how to hold the ball to making a big contribution to our team. Another best memory was having Mr. Beckham (Raindrops) as our coach, he was such a great and wonderful coach. We will never forget!
